A body language expert believes that Prince Harry displayed a “signal of deception” during his interview with Today’s Hoda Kotb. Dr. Lillian Glass shared her insight into some of Harry’s expressions and gestures, specifically when he was asked about his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

Prince Harry shared vague details about his recent visit with the queen

During his April Today interview, Kotb asked Prince Harry what it was like to visit with the queen when he and Meghan Markle made a stop on their way to the Invictus Games.

Harry didn’t go into too much detail about their meeting, saying it was “really nice to catch up.”

“Being with her, it was great,” Harry said. “It was just so nice to see her. She’s on great form. She’s always got a great sense of humor with me.”

Prince Harry also mentioned protecting his grandmother. “I’m just making sure that she’s, you know, protected and got the right people around her,” he said.

Body language expert analyzed Prince Harry’s gestures when talking about the queen

Glass discussed some of Harry’s interview gestures with Express, including how he didn’t have a “genuine smile” and “tried too hard to make it seem that all was well with his grandmother and himself.”

She started by looking at the way the Duke of Sussex “hesitates for way too long” after Kotb asked about his visit.

“He shakes his head no when he says it was great,” Glass noted. “Then he looks away and changes the subject to her sense of humor.”

Glass calls this a “signal of deception” because of the way he shook his head, indicating the visit wasn’t as “great” as he said it was. “He also doesn’t have a genuine smile when discussing the meeting,” the expert pointed out. “In fact, he looks sad.”

She added, “When people recall a pleasant meeting they usually show a genuine smile. This was not the case here.”

Harry’s comment about wanting to provide protection for the queen has come under fire by many experts and critics, with Glass calling it “very strange.”

“He also talks about her being protected and makes a gesture with his lip that shows ambivalence,” the expert noted. “He is also tense not relaxed as he leans forward as though he is trying too hard in the interview.”

Expert said there was a ‘sadness’ about Prince Harry during the interview

Glass also pointed out how Harry didn’t make eye contact during the interview. “This is the first time we have ever seen him like this. He tries too hard to make it seem that all was well with his grandmother and himself,” she explained. “His eye contact is also very bad as he looks down.”

The body language expert continued, “He stammers and has a shoulder shrug and cocks his head as he says home for me is in the States. It seems that he really doesn’t believe it as indicated.”

She added, “He talks about feeling welcome with open arms — and gestures this — in Santa Barbara and having a great community and looks sad as he says it.”

Glass believes that Harry had a “sadness” about him. “There is also a sadness about Harry that we seem to see all too often and never saw when he was in the UK,” she said.
