Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have come a long way since they first began dating in 2001 while they were students at St. Andrews University in Scotland. The duo dated for a decade, with a couple of breakups, before officially tying the knot in April 2011.

Since then, the pair have become a picturesque royal couple. They are very much a modern couple who have worked diligently to make sure that their children have normal childhoods away from the grueling spotlight of the world stage. However, the Cambridges have also leaned into the traditions of the British royal family, something Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have resisted.

However, things weren’t always the picture of perfection between the Cambridges. In fact, a royal expert claims that Prince William’s nickname for Kate shows how much she had to learn on the job.

Kate Middleton is beloved by royal fans

Unlike the Duchess of Sussex who was never given a chance by the British press or public, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is overwhelmingly beloved. The duchess is extremely committed to her patronages and charity work that focuses on children and childhood development.

When she is not with her own children, she is often showcased engaging with the tiniest royal fans and advocating for the mental health and well-being of others.

Though the duchess will never officially be queen even after Prince William sits on the throne as the Crowned King, the British public often refers to Kate as their future queen. She has been praised for her grace and her willingness to take on more responsibility as her work has expanded.

Queen Elizabeth was once concerned about Kate Middleton’s work ethic

Though the Duchess of Cambridge has more than embraced royal life. There was a time prior to her marriage to Prince William when the queen was gravely concerned about the duchess’ work ethic.

Following her years at St. Andrews, the duchess worked for her parents and then for a while at a design company, Jigsaw in London. Queen Elizabeth did not see those jobs as a career.

“Queen Elizabeth had grave concerns and believed that Kate needed to have a job and an identity in her own right before an engagement was announced,” royal expert Katie Nicholl explained.

Prince William calls Kate Middleton Duchess Dolittle

Though they are more formal in public, behind closed doors, the Cambridges like to tease one another. In fact, the prince often teases his wife about what was perceived to be her lack of work ethic prior to their marriage. The duke often calls her, Duchess Dolittle.

“Kate’s nickname could be a cheeky reference to the criticism she received before marrying into the Royal Family,” an insider told Express. “They can also be a rather childlike family. They love to play games and they give each other silly presents. I think it’s because they have to be so earnest in their public lives. Royals have always played in private. So William and Kate are really carrying on a long-held tradition.”
