These days, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have taken the reigns of the British royal family. After months of isolation and self-quarantine due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, they have returned to their in-person royal duties as they try to usher the royal family into a new modern era.

In contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are living a very private and peaceful life in Santa Barbara, California after purchasing their first home together. The pair are still hunkering down as COVID-19 cases in the U.S. have not eased. However, in the months since Megxit, they have also been healing their relationship with the Cambridges.

Unfortunately, this harmony with Prince William and Kate is rather new. In fact, just two years ago for Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, the royal brothers’ animosity toward one another was making everyone uncomfortable.

This is how Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud began

Growing up and into their teens and 20s, Prince William and Prince Harry were very close. Though the older prince was on a different path than his younger brother, they always leaned on one another. For years, palace aides had hoped to see Prince Harry by his brother’s side as Prince William became Crowned King. However, life has shifted things drastically.

Already frustrated by living in Prince William and Kate’s shadows, Prince Harry reportedly blew a gasket when after meeting Meghan, Prince William urged him to put the brakes on the romance.

According to sources quoted in the book, Finding Freedom by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, Prince William told Prince Harry,

‘Don’t feel you need to rush this. Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.’ Prince Harry felt that there was a tone of snobbishness that was anathema to his approach to the world from his own brother.

Prince Harry and Prince William’s feud only intensified after the Sussexes got married

Things were never quite the same after that incident. In fact, when Meghan and Prince Harry wed, things between the brothers got worse, especially when it came to funding their respective households and ventures. A source said in Finding Freedom per Entertainment Tonight,

Where you are born in this family dictates your position of power, and because of that, Harry has always come second to his brother, especially when it comes to funding. There were times in the past when Harry wanted to take on bigger projects and do more work, but he couldn’t get the money to support it. William was always the priority. A lot of their quarrels have been over budget.

Now that Prince Harry has left royal life, he and Prince William have been having difficult discussions about how to move forward. “The pair are speaking at the moment, but the conversations are stilted and difficult,” royal author Phil Dampier recently told Daily Mail. Hopefully, the brothers can work through their issues.

Prince William and Prince Harry made Prince Charles’ 70th birthday photo a nightmare

In the midst of their feud, the Cambridges and the Sussexes came together with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for the future Crowned King’s 70th birthday. Though the photos came out beautifully, it was quite a task getting to that point. A source explained in Finding Freedom per Entertainment Tonight, “Neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available.”

Since the brothers can also be hot and cold with their father and had been in a two years-long feud at that point everyone wanted the portraits to be taken as quickly as possible.
