Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Reflect on ‘Rollercoaster’ First Few Months With Baby Daughter: ‘100 Plus Days in the NICU’

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas recently became parents. The power couple welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, in January 2022.

However, Chopra and Jonas’ first few months as parents have not been the easiest. They recently opened up about the “rollercoaster” journey the family has been on.

On Jan. 21, 2022, Chopra and Jonas took to social media to share that they had a daughter via surrogacy.

“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” the couple’s statement said. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”

According to TMZ, baby Malti was born on Jan. 15 just after 8 p.m. in San Diego.

A source also reportedly told ET in March, “Priyanka and Nick love being new parents and have been spending a lot of downtime at home. The two have wanted children for a while and so happy it finally happened. Priyanka and Nick are private but have let close friends and family meet their baby.”

Chopra and Jonas have kept their family life under wrap since welcoming Malti. However, in honor of Mother’s Day this year, the pair opened up to fans about their “rollercoaster” parenting journey these past few months.

“On this Mother’s Day we can’t help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we’ve been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced,” Chopra and Jonas wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of Chopra holding Malti. “After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home. Every family’s journey is unique and requires a certain level of faith, and while ours was a challenging few months, what becomes abundantly clear, in retrospect, is how precious and perfect every moment is.”

The couple did not share why Malti was admitted into the NICU, but they gave a shoutout to the health professionals who took care of her: “We are overjoyed that our little girl is finally home, and just want to thank every Doctor, nurse and specialist at Rady Children’s La Jolla and Cedar Sinai, Los Angeles, who were there selflessly every step of the way. Our next chapter begins now, and our baby is truly a badass. Let’s get it M! Mommy and Daddy love you.”

Although Chopra and Jonas posted identical messages about Malti, they also wrote personalized messages to each other for Mother’s Day.

“There is no one I’d rather do this with than you,” Chopra said. “Thank you for making me a mama @nickjonas I love you.”

Meanwhile, Jonas wrote to his wife, “Babe, you inspire me and every way, and you are taking to this new role with such ease and steadiness. I am so grateful to be on this journey with you. You are already an incredible mother. Happy Mother’s Day. I love you.”
