Though Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are doing what’s best for them, it’s no secret that Megxit has put a great deal of strain on the British royal family. Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge have been shouldering a lot of responsibility since the Sussexes stepped back and Prince Andrew was booted from royal life.

Likewise, because things have been so tense between Prince Harry and Prince William, Queen Elizabeth II has been forced to act as the mediator between the Sussexes and the remaining senior royals when it comes to ironing out plans and details surrounding Megxit.

Many of the Megxit negotiations have gone very smoothly. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of drama surrounding the Sussexes’ brand, Sussex Royal. Though the duke and duchess have agreed to rebrand, the queen is now suspicious about what they will do next.

Queen Elizabeth isn’t convinced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have thought Megxit through

Though she understands their unhappiness and is sensitive to their position, the queen isn’t convinced Megxit wasn’t just a rash decision made by the Sussexes in a rush. “She has a particular sensitivity to what Harry has been going through because of her closeness to Margaret and seeing the same dramas and tensions played out two generations ago,” royal biographer Robert Lacey told People

However, for Prince Harry, in particular, leaving behind the life he’s always known is going to have a certain amount of trials and tribulations. The queen is convinced this might all be temporary.

‘Theey are making contingency plans in case the Sussexes suddenly turn round and say: ‘Can we come back under your wing?’” an insider told The Sunday Times. “You could bring them back to Frogmore to look after them. They wouldn’t return to royal duties, but they could have a period of rehabilitation and recuperation.”

This is why Sussex Royal caused so much drama

The duke and duchess put a lot of time and money into branding themselves as Sussex Royal only for it to be taken away at the last moment. When they announced their intent to rebrand — the Sussexes statement was quite terse.

“The statement’s underlying message is they are very, very unhappy with this arrangement,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun. “It was completely unnecessary. It may lead to future trouble — they don’t like the arrangement that is forcing them to step down as working royals and not use their titles, even though they will have them. They want to use Sussex Royal but by saying the monarchy doesn’t have the power to prevent them from using it — why say that? There’s no point. My hope is the bitterness they seem to feel with the current arrangement will become more positive as months progress.”

Queen Elizabeth was embarrassed by the Sussexes’ response to their rebrand. “She’s so disappointed that her own grandchild would heap so much embarrassment on the monarchy and bring all this unwanted attention on his family at the worst possible time,” an alleged insider told US Weekly.

Queen Elizabeth believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have other motives

The duke and duchess response to having Sussex Royal taken away put the queen on high alert. She is now concerned that the Sussexes’ have ulterior motives. “Putting that 12-month review in place goes to show you that the Queen will be watching them like a hawk,” Julie Montagu Viscountess Hinchingbrooke said in the Channel 5 documentary, Royals: A family in crisis. “She will want to see everything that they are doing, what they are making money from and how it is affecting the Royal Family. So there must be some concern from the Queen about what their intentions are.”

We will just have to see how this all plays out.
