In the summer of 2018, Van Ness started dating Wilco Froneman, a South African native and rugby player for New York’s Gotham Nights. Like much of Van Ness’s life, his relationship with Froneman was mostly private. Van Ness’s fans didn’t know about their relationship until they attended the Creative Arts Emmys together.
By December of the same year, the two had called it quits. JVN announced their split on Instagram, citing Ariana Grande’s lyrics to “Thank U, Next” in his caption. There’s no denying the chemistry between Van Ness and his Queer Eye co-star and restauranteur Antoni Porowski. For a long time, fans thought the two were in a secret relationship. JVN and Porowski would frequently hold hands on the show. Plus, when the public saw them doing press together, fans speculated even more about Van Ness and Porowski’s potential relationship. In July of 2019, Van Ness took to Twitter to spill the tea on his love life, squashing the rumors he was dating his co-star.

Van Ness shared the happy news on Instagram in December of 2020. He shared a photo of himself campaigning for Elizabeth Warren. In his caption, Van Ness highlighted everything that he accomplished in 2020 — including his marriage. “I got married to my best friend & have a loving partner to continue building my life with,” he wrote amidst a slew of other achievements like campaigning and celebrating QE‘s Emmy nominations.
A few days later, Van Ness gave his followers more insight into his relationship with Peacock. “We went on a date in London, which turned into more dates whilst I was on [a] comedy tour,” he captioned a series of photos on Instagram. Van Ness admitted he was nervous about inviting Peacock on a trip to Amsterdam to meet his family, but “something about Mark felt different.” Now, the two are a happily married couple.

There isn’t a whole lot of information about Van Ness’s husband Peacock. It’s unclear how the two met, but Peacock started engaging with Van Ness on social media at the end of 2019. In February of 2020, Peacock shared a photo to his Instagram, crediting Van Ness as the photographer. Peacock and the former high school cheerleader share a lot in common, based on his social posts about gymnastics. Peacock also appears to have worked for Men’s Health UK in the past, but it’s unclear what he does now.
