The Reason Why Megan Fox Once Turned Against Disney: ‘It Makes Me Sick’

Megan Fox is someone who usually speaks her mind and never seems to hold back, giving no thought to the potential consequences of her words. This was the case when she publicly disparaged Disney a while back for practices she thought were unfair and unethical towards their stars. A move Fox knew could be detrimental to her career.

Megan Fox has had a lot of hot takes in her career. So much so it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether or not the actor is being serious or is indulging in her unique brand of humor. But a while back, Fox admitted how much she hated the giant conglomerate known as Disney for their perceived practices, which she seemed very passionate about.

Fox was well aware she might have tanked her career by airing out her grievances at the time. But for her, the bold star brought to light an issue she felt needed to be discussed.

Disney has launched several careers, and it continues to do so. From Selena Gomez to Demi Lovato, the list of beneficiaries of the Disney brand is endless. Although many might see Transformers as Fox’s claim to fame, the young actor also had her shot at a Disney movie. She was featured in the 2004 Disney film Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen alongside Lindsey Lohan. At the time, she revealed that she and Lohan weren’t on good terms behind the scenes.

“I didn’t get along with Lindsey Lohan on Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, but you have to consider that we were 16-year-old girls,” Fox said according to The Things. “I haven’t seen Lindsey since then, but I imagine she’s grown and become a different person.”

Apart from Confessions, Fox hasn’t starred in any Disney movies. However, she did have a starring role on the sitcom Hope & Faith on ABC, a network that’s owned by Disney.

Why Megan Fox once turned against Disney

After Transformers, the actor was officially on her way to a stardom that might have rivaled other Disney alums. Still, Fox didn’t have fond memories working with the company. In a 2008 interview with GQ, she briefly mentioned how she felt sexually repressed during her time on Hope & Faith.

“Sex is something that everyone does, so why can’t I talk about it?” Fox said at the time.

She later discussed how Disney was treating its other stars on issues regarding their sexual openness. Particularly, Fox references Disney stars Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens. The latter was a former High School Musical star who apologized for a nude photo of herself Reuters reported leaked on the internet.

“No. You shouldn’t have to apologize. Someone betrayed Vanessa, but no one’s angry at that person. She had to apologize,” Fox said on the matter. “I hate Disney for making her do that. F**k Disney.”

GQ notes to Fox that her career might be in jeopardy after her remarks. Fox acknowledged the danger but stuck to her guns.

“Yeah, that was probably a bad move – they own everything. But it’s not right,” Fox said. “They take these little girls, and they put them through entertainment school and teach them to sing and dance, and make them wear belly shirts, but they won’t allow them to be their own people. It makes me sick.”

In a later interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fox doubled down on her comments. She asserted that she meant what she said, and had no plans to apologize.

“Because I was defending Miley Cyrus and all these young kids that they basically enslave and then basically s– on when something goes wrong publicly,” Fox said. “To force a 14- or 15-year-old girl to come out and apologize like she’s done something wrong is not acceptable. If you ever watch the Disney channel, they’re selling sex.”

Does Megan Fox still have the same feelings towards Disney?

It’s unclear if Fox still harbors these same feelings towards the company. However, it seems there isn’t any more bad blood between them, if there even was any at all. The studio posted a video of Fox on their Youtube channel Disney Parks. On there, Fox is enjoying her time in one of Disney’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge’s theme park rides. Fox has also expressed interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is owned by Disney.

“I won’t lie, I do want to find a Marvel or a DC character that I’ve always wanted to play, and do one of those,” Fox said. “People hate on you as an actor for that because it doesn’t get you the big awards.”
