Season 2 of Bridgerton was going to focus on different characters. But it’s not surprising Regé-Jean Page was offered to return to play Simon Basset again. A new report revealed how much money he turned down because he wanted to move on to other roles.

Regé-Jean Page gained fame from ‘Bridgerton’ Season 1

The first season of Bridgerton showed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) entering her first season. There are high expectations on who she’ll marry after Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) favors her.

The one man who truly catches Daphne’s eye is Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Page). However, she doesn’t know about his vow to his father that he’ll never marry.

The Netflix show debuted on Christmas and Page gained a lot of fame from it. He went on to host Saturday Night Live. Fans hoped to see him in the second season, but it was recently revealed he won’t be back.

“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end—give us a year,” Page told Variety. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

He went on to say he’s excited for the Netflix show to continue. “I have nothing but excitement for Bridgerton continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe,” he said. “But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing.”

The actor was offered the chance to play the duke once again. The Hollywood Reporter claimed he turned down a huge offer with an impressive salary.

Sources claimed the actor was offered $50,000 an episode to guest star in three to five episodes. He reportedly didn’t take it for a “multitude of reasons.”

Page is reportedly focused on his film career. He’s currently filming a thriller called The Gray Man, which will also star Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Alfre Woodard.

The show is based on Julia Quinn’s eight-novel series. An announcement styled as one of Lady Whistledown’s pamphlets was posted on Instagram revealing the next season will be focused on a different member of the family.

“This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) intends to dominate the social season,” it revealed. “I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities.”

So Page wouldn’t have been the focus of the season. The news of Page’s exit is still heartbreaking to some fans.
