Dolly Parton, who has been married to Carl Dean since 1966, was the first country star to be featured on the cover of Playboy magazine. The now-famous portrait of the “9 to 5” singer made a lasting impression on everyone, including Parton’s husband, Carl Thomas Dean. Since her husband loved the cover so much, Parton dusted off her outfit and posed in it for a new portrait. She gave it to Dean for his birthday last year. Here’s how they spent the day.

Dolly Parton wore her famous Playboy bunny outfit for Carl Dean

On Jul. 20, 2021, Parton posted a video for her husband’s birthday on her Instagram. Parton was wearing her old Playboy bunny outfit from 1978. She captioned it with: “It’s always #HotGirlSummer for my husband, Carl.”

Parton explained, “Remember sometime back I said I was going to pose on the cover of Playboy Magazine when I was 75? Well, I’m 75 and they don’t have a magazine anymore. But my husband always loved the original cover of Playboy, so I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy.”

Parton added that she’d done a photoshoot “in this little outfit” and made another cover with “the new Dolly.”

“Well, the old new Dolly,” she said. “In the first one, I was kind of a little butterball in that one. Well, I’m string cheese now. But he’ll probably think I’m cream cheese. I hope!”

Parton said that Dean still thinks she is a “hot chick,” even after 57 years of marriage.

She continued, “I’m not going to try to talk him out of that.”

How Parton and Dean spent that day

In an interview with Access, Parton explained what she and her husband did that day. Access asked Parton how Dean reacted when he saw her in the Playboy outfit.

“Well, he did about have a heart attack,” Parton laughed. “But he got a big kick out of it because I totally surprised him with that because he was in the kitchen den, and so I got dressed, and I came through the door with this cake, rolled it in on that little tea chart or whatever.

“And now here I am in my Playboy suit because I was actually-I used to joke that I was going to pose again for Playboy when I was 75 and, of course, they didn’t have the pictures anymore, I don’t know that I’d done it anyway, but I thought, well I’m going to do this and I’m going to surprise him.

“I kind of spent the morning with him, cooking and moving around in my little bunny suit. And he loved it. That was fun. That was for his birthday.”

Parton also shared what they did for her birthday that year.

What the couple did for Parton’s birthday

The private couple always manages to plan something special for each other’s birthdays. Although, their most recent birthdays have been chill because of the pandemic. Parton shared what they did for her birthday that year as well.

“And for my birthday, I still spent the day with him, and we just kind of-this was casual. I don’t go out so much anymore with COVID. I’m dying to go back out to restaurants. I used to love to get dressed up and do that. But I just got dressed up and stayed home with Carl.

“Someone had sent me a birthday cake with my name on it, so I didn’t have a Duncan Heinz coconut or banana pudding cake at that time, but I will have many of them as time goes by. But that was just a sweet day with us just spending time together.”

Parton and Dean are couple goals for sure. Here’s to many more surprising birthdays.
