Live-action ‘Resident Evil’ release date on Netflix

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the new Resident Evil adventure, as Netflix has revealed a release date of July 14, 2022. The season will consist of eight episodes, all dropping at once on the streaming service. The live-action series will join Netflix’s other Resident Evil project, an animated series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

‘Resident Evil’ teaser images revealed

Unfortunately, the release date did not come attached to a trailer. However, the new key art images offer a bloody look at what’s to come.

In one poster, the new Resident Evil logo sits behind a bubble of blood. Another shows a small red and yellow pill, again covered in blood. Interestingly, the pill looks to be branded with “Umbrella Corporation” — the franchise’s evil pharmaceutical company — as well as the world “Joy.” Finally, the third image features a vial of blood that has tested positive for T-virus, a deadly disease that turns the infected into zombies.

What will the ‘Resident Evil’ show be about?

According to Netflix’s live-action Resident Evil announcement in 2020, the series will take place in two timelines. One will show a time before the spread of the T-virus, following sisters Jade and Billie Wesker on their move to New Raccoon City. The second timeline is set more than a decade later. The T-virus has wiped out much of the world, and Jade must survive on her own.

As TVLine notes, the adaptation aims to “redefine the legendary horror franchise.” Showrunner Andrew Dabb expressed his excitement for the project. He told the publication:

“I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”
