Since its debut in 2007, audiences have been watching the family members of the famous Kardashian-Jenner clan navigate life, work and relationships on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Now that E!’s blockbuster reality TV show is winding down for its 20th and final season, fans are rewatching past seasons. And these fans are catching little moments that are changing their perceptions of some of the show’s biggest plot lines.

This includes the extremely volatile ups and downs of Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian‘s relationship  — from dating to having children together to splitting up and, most recently, co-parenting their three children.

Some audience members have even said they’re reconsidering their formerly negative views of the controversial on-again, off-again couple.

Disick and Kardashian have been a mainstay of the reality TV show since season one

Kardashian is the oldest daughter of family matriarch Kris Jenner. She was 28 years old when Keeping Up with the Kardashians first premiered on E!, although it was hardly her first time being followed by cameras.

“Kourtney was no stranger to reality TV; she had already starred in the E! Network series The Simple Life, with her childhood friend Paris Hilton,” explains Biography.com. “Kourtney had also been cast, among other the children of other wealthy celebs, in the failed reality show Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive.”

Unlike Kardashian, Disick wasn’t born into a famous family, but he was well-known in his own right. According to Vox, the reality star grew up in New York, ended up not graduating from his private East Hampton school, and was “supposedly a hard partier” whose teen nickname was “STD” and who “modeled and appeared on the cover of young adult books.”

Disick’s fortunes changed, literally and figuratively, when he started dating Kardashian.

‘KUWTK’: Fans Call Scott Disick ‘Embarrassing’ for Professing His Love for Kourtney Kardashian

According to US Magazine, Kardashian and Disick met each other in Mexico the year before Kardashian’s show debuted. They were featured as a couple in the reality series’ very first episode, and Disick has been a regular cast member for all past 20 seasons. But their relationship was volatile from season one.

“Kardashian accused her boyfriend of cheating on her on the season 2 premiere of KUWTK after she found texts from another woman on his phone,” explains the tabloid. “The pair split shortly after.”

This would hardly be the first time the couple split, and their breakups and reconciliations were a mainstay on the show. There was even an almost-married moment in 2011, which was featured in the season one finale of Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

Their final breakup in 2015. The ex-couple have three children together: Mason, Penelope and Reign.

Fans are re-watching ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ and reevaluating their view of the couple

Disick and Kardashian’s portrayal in the show hasn’t always been positive, and he’s even fought with Kardashian’s siblings. “Disick’s relationship with Kardashian’s sister Khloé Kardashian has been especially tense at times,” explains Biography.com. “After one Keeping Up with the Kardashians episode in which they butted heads, there were reports that Disick had sought outpatient treatment for alcohol and psychological issues.”

Yet in retrospect, some fans who are re-watching the reality series from the very beginning are changing their minds about Disick.

“For the longest time I always thought Scott was the worst and definitely the bad guy in his relationship with Kourtney,” says Reddit user LydiaAuguste on the social media platform, “but when I rewatched everything, including all the spin-offs…I realised he really wasn’t. He was struggling a lot with his mental health, and had no healthy way of dealing with it. It actually made me dislike Kourtney a lot, I feel she wasn’t supportive and just made everything harder.”

Another user also took Disick’s side, especially as it relates to how some of Kardashian’s siblings treated him. “Kim hiring a [private investigator] to track Scott was psychotic,” said Reddit user the_skintellectual in the same discussion “I really hope that was a fake storyline. She hired someone that followed him on Scott’s ‘work trips’ and put a tracking device on Scott’s car. It sounds like something Kris would do to make sure the men in the family aren’t hurting the ‘brand.'”
