Why is the ‘RHOA’ reunion a video call?

Andy Cohen confirmed that the RHOA reunion would have to be virtual due to the health crisis. The Bravo host said on his SiriusXM show that it was not the way he would’ve preferred to do it, “but life is not how we prefer it right now.”

The well-being of the Atlanta peaches was at the forefront of the decision. Guidelines from the government have established that social distancing is the best practice to avoid further contagion of COVID-19. Bringing the RHOA cast together into a room could put them and the crew at risk.

“We want to be in the same room, but we cannot risk the health and safety of the Housewives or the incredible crew in Georgia,” Cohen said. “[RHOA] is regarded by many as the Super Bowl of reunion shows, and it is truly one of my favorite reunions to shoot, I look forward to it, and the fact of the matter is it’s either we do it this way or there’s no Super Bowl this year.”

Fans were initially upset at the idea that the RHOA ladies would not actually be physically reuniting. Many viewers asked for production to stall a couple more weeks but Cohen explained it was best to get it over with and wrap season 12 up.

“If we wait for this pandemic to be over for when we all are in the same room, it’s gonna delay everything,” Cohen added. “We need to move forward, we need to live in reality right now, and the reality is if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this right now.”

Kandi Burruss shares ‘RHOA’ teaser

Ahead of the RHOA Season 12 reunion debut, Burruss shared her own teaser. The Grammy-award winner has been at odds with Leakes and posted a clip of her teasing her thoughts before filming began.

“Me and Nene have been having some words,” Burruss says. “I already know ain’t never really rock, rock with each other since the beginning.”

“I don’t really know what to think about today,” she continued. “I don’t really know if [Nene] is going to be coming at me thinking she’s going to talk crazy to me to these people or if she’s going to try to come like she got some sense.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 reunion airs on Sunday, May 10 at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
