What did Kelly Dodd say that received backlash?

Dodd landed in hot water after her bridal shower. As you know, the RHOC star recently got married to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal. Ahead of Dodd tying the knot she had a party with her closest girlfriends. At the event, she was gifted a hat with the words “Drunk Wives Matter.”

When fans saw photos of Dodd with the hat on they called her out. Many believed she was mocking the Black Lives Matter movement as the phrase was an obvious play on words. Since the reality TV personality has made controversial statements in the past, viewers of the Bravo show were not too kind to her. Things got so heated that Dodd ended up apologizing for the incident.

“Over the weekend at my bridal shower, I got lots of gifts and briefly displayed them,” she started on Instagram. “One was a hat with a play on words since I’m about to be a wife, I’m on a Housewives TV show and might be drunk once in a while.”

“It was not intended to offend or make any kind of statement,” Dodd added. “Of course I support Black lives and racial equality. Thank you all.”

Heather Dubrow speaks out

RHOC fans were so upset at Dodd’s comments, even after her apology, they were they would not watch the show. Some viewers even took to social media to say they would boycott season 15. When Dubrow made an appearance on Poplitically Incorrect, she reacted to the backlash.

“[Kelly]’s not in my world. I don’t harbor any ill will. I don’t want to be friends, but, I think that in these days and times, talking about the boycott, if you don’t believe in the Black Lives Matter movement if you’re gonna be against this, if you’re not gonna understand where we are in our world today and what humans need, you’re not human,” the former star said according to Reality Blurb.

Dubrow is not the only RHOC star to feel like this about Dodd. Current star, Braunwyn Windham-Burke, also shared a similar sentiment. The latter has been an advocate for BLM taking to the streets to protest. Windham-Burke undoubtedly clashed with Dodd’s views and called her out accordingly.

“We are diametrically opposed in our ideology right now,” Windham-Burke said in the Getting Real with the Real Housewives podcast, according to Reality Blurb. “I believe Black Lives Matter, and she believes Drunk Wives Matter. And that’s something that I don’t funny. I’ve forgiven her a lot for her big mouth over the years. But now we’re at the point where she is attacking people, and it’s more than I can be around.”

The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
