Why is Kelly Dodd’s future on ‘RHOC’ uncertain?

Dodd became a RHOC fan-favorite since she joined the show. However, five seasons later, her future on the Bravo reality series is unknown. Dodd has been creating controversy online with her opinions about COVID-19. Early on in the pandemic, Dodd said that the coronavirus was “God’s way of thinning the herd,” something she has apologized for since then.

“Of course I regret saying that,” Dodd said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “It was a stupid thing for me to say, it was insensitive and I apologize if I hurt or offended anybody. That wasn’t really my intention… I got really freaked out about it. In hindsight, it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever said.”

However, since then, Dodd has continued to make comments that are deemed insensitive by fans. Over the last weekend of January 2021, California’s governor lifted a statewide stay-at-home mandate. What this meant was that restaurants were able to once again reopen with a limited capacity.

Dodd has been a critic of Governor Gavin Newsom and was seen celebrating restaurants able to reopen. The reality TV personality shared a couple of videos on Instagram Stories with her friends having a drink. A man in the background is heard yelling that no one had masks on and they were all “super spreaders.”

Everyone in Dodd’s group, including her, cheered on the comment and toasted to that label.

Kelly Dodd gets fired from Positive Beverage

RHOC fans know that Dodd heavily promoted a drink on the show. The latter was frequently seen with a hat on that had Positive Beverage’s logo on it. Following her controversial statements, the company cut ties with Dodd citing the difference of opinions.

“Our core values of wellness, community, diversity, and inclusion should be reflected by our brand and anyone associated with it,” Head of Brand, Zack Muchnick, said in a statement posted on Instagram. “It has become clear over the past few months that Kelly’s controversial views and opinions have distracted from our primary objectives, so effective today, we are no longer affiliated with Kelly Dodd-Leventhal.”

‘RHOC’ veteran?

With Positive Beverage dropping Dodd, fans have been on edge about the future of the star on the Bravo show. An insider recently revealed that Dodd is not hopeful of coming back for RHOC Season 16.

“Although she would love to stay on the show, she has come to terms with it,” an insider told E! News. “She knows it’s coming.”

Additionally, Dodd changed her Instagram bio to say she was a “veteran” of RHOC. Many fans interpreted that as she hinting she was axed from the show. However, a source close to the controversial celebrity explained what happened.

“Rick [Leventhal] made the edit Sunday to remove the beverage reference and added ‘veteran’ to reflect Kelly’s longtime tenure on the show,” a source told Us Weekly. “He never intended to suggest she’s no longer a cast member because she is still with the RHOC franchise.”

Dodd’s Instagram bio has been reverted back and took away the “veteran” reference. So far, Bravo has not made an official statement about the cast of RHOC Season 16.
