In an April 2022 statement, The Real Housewives of Potomac original cast member Ashley Darby, 33, announced her separation from her husband, Michael Darby, 62, following a seven-year marriage.
Shortly before breaking the news, she posted a video of herself smiling over Amaarae & Moliy’s “Sad Girlz Luv Money” to her Instagram story.
The lyrics included, “I’m gonna get paid, yeah, just gimme” and “I really like to party, I really like your body.” She also uploaded a similar video to Common’s “Go!” During RHOP Season 5, Darby revealed she signed a two-year extension to their prenuptial agreement, which would expire after their fifth marriage anniversary.
As more than five years have passed, and as she expressed in a confessional, the Housewife will receive half of their assets if they divorce. Michael, a real estate mogul, has an estimated net worth of $20 million. They also don’t seem to have a postnuptial agreement in place.
Darby announced separation from Michael in April 2022 statement
On April 19, the 33-year-old revealed her separation in a statement to The Daily Dish. She explained that she and Michael initially “anticipated sharing every single day together” after they wed but have since decided to split.
Ashley also addressed why they parted ways, admitting it had to do with a combination of “too much intrusion by reality TV into the most personal parts of our lives, age gap issues, cultural problems” and differences in how they raise their children.
Additionally, she pointed out that they’re currently “in different stages in our lives and have different goals for our futures.”
While she claims they want “true happiness” for each other, she doesn’t believe they can “do this together.” Darby continued, noting that they plan to co-parent their sons, Dean and Dylan, and asked for privacy.
Michael Darby was accused of cheating throughout ‘RHOP’
The Darbys first appeared in The Real Housewives of Potomac in its first season. Their relationship raised eyebrows initially due to their significant age gap. However, fans and other cast members began disliking him due to the constant rumors of infidelity surrounding him.
During season 4, a cameraman sued Michael for inappropriately touching him as he accused the real estate mogul of grabbing his butt. The case was later dismissed, and she never wavered in support of her husband.
The following season, after Darby gave birth to their first child together, Dean, a picture went viral of her husband in boxers, apparently taken by a woman.
While he claimed he fell asleep, many didn’t believe the 62-year-old and thought he cheated on his wife. They seemed to work their issues out in counseling and were on better terms during season 6. Their separation will likely play out in RHOP Season 7 as the cast is reportedly currently filming.
