‘RHOP’: Ashley Darby Reveals Why Michael Darby Initially Thought Juan Dixon Wouldn’t Propose
Although Robyn and Juan Dixon divorced a few years ago, the two continued living together with their children. The couple has worked to repair their relationship, and the former NBA player wanted to propose to his ex-wife again. Therefore, he called on her fellow Green-Eyed Bandit Gizelle Bryant for help, who eventually told Ashley Darby about the upcoming engagement.
When she spilled the beans to her husband, Michael, he seemed adamant that Juan wouldn’t propose but refused to give up any intel. After The Real Housewives of Potomac season 5 aired, Ashley revealed why her husband thought Dixon would never get down on one knee again.
Juan Dixon proposed to Robyn during ‘RHOP’ season 5 finale
After meeting in high school, Robyn Dixon and Juan quickly fell for each other and married after college. The two welcomed two boys into the world, but he spent a lot of time away traveling as a professional NBA player.
As a result, the couple grew apart and eventually divorced in 2012. Four years later, she joined The Real Housewives of Potomac as an original full-time cast member.
During season 5, the former NBA player revealed he wanted to take their relationship to the next level again and propose to his ex-wife. He asked her parents for a second time and found the perfect ring with the help of her best friend, Gizelle Bryant.
The former NBA player proposed at the Christmas party to a surprised Robyn.
Michael Darby thought Dixon wouldn’t propose
A few weeks before the engagement, the ladies traveled to Portugal, where Bryant told Karen Huger and Ashley Darby about the upcoming proposal. After returning home, Darby relayed the news to her husband, Michael, who insisted Dixon wouldn’t get down on one knee again.
Without going into detail, Michael claimed there’s a reason why the former NBA player won’t propose for a second time but wouldn’t give any more information when his wife pressed.
At the party, Darby told Bryant what her husband said, but again he refused to give anymore insight. Regardless of the back and forth, Dixon did end up proposing, and the two have an island destination wedding planned.

Following the finale, Darby appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and spoke about the engagement party where she and her husband admittedly drank too much.
Executive producer Cohen also asked for the information Michael refused to reveal. She explained he didn’t understand why Dixon would want to propose now after choosing not to do so for several years.
Additionally, she claims the former NBA star made a joke about it after last season’s reunion while intoxicated with the other husbands.
According to Darby, her husband swore that he wouldn’t spill the beans, but she claims she heard the joke from someone else in the group.
During the RHOP season 5 episode 19 after show, Darby explained her husband didn’t think Dixon would propose after they’ve already established a happy life together.
She also claimed Michael believes Dixon would not have gotten down on one knee again if not for someone “pushing” him to do it. The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 9/8 Central on Bravo.
