During season 5 of The Real Housewives of Potomac, former good friends Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels came to blows. Although the footage of the fight depicts Samuels as the aggressor, many fans still side with the housewife as they believe Dillard instigated the altercation with her words. While Dillard is shocked that people are picking Samuels’ side, she admits she’s not surprised.

Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels got into physical altercation

Last season, close friends Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels had a falling out. Despite having a meeting and wanting to bury the hatchet, the two could not rectify their relationship.

They started season 5 off on the wrong foot as Samuels felt betrayed when Dillard invited former housewife Charrisse Jackson Jordan to her anniversary party because the podcast host claims Jordan orchestrated hurtful rumors about her family.

Although Dillard apologized, they failed to get on the same page and came to blows at a winery. The ex-friends got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Samuels grabbed Dillard by her hair and hit the former Miss United States on the head several times.

Dillard and Samuels filed complaints against each other

A week after the feet, the podcast host met with the other housewives who witnessed the fight at Karen Huger’s house. Samuels claimed she “blacked out” and admitted she didn’t feel remorse for the altercation at the time.

After Dillard learned that her former friend seemed not to care about their physical fight, the newlywed filed a complaint against Samuels, resulting in a second-degree charge.

Believing the judge could send her to jail without hearing her side of the story first, the podcast host countered, hitting Dillard with the same charge.

Even though Samuels eventually acknowledged where she went wrong and admitted she shouldn’t have gotten physical with her former friend, the Not For Lazy Moms owner has yet to apologize.

Dillard admits she isn’t surprised to see people taking Samuels’ side

When the media initially caught wind of the fight, which occurred in Oct. 2019, it favored Samuels and claimed Dillard started the altercation by throwing a glass at the podcast host.

Additionally, Samuels seemingly joked about it online afterward and insinuated that Dillard deserved what happened. Therefore, many fans already took the podcast host’s side before the season premiered.

After the episode depicting the fight aired, several viewers changed their minds and pinpointed Samuels as the aggressor. However, some still side with the podcast host and believe Dillard verbally instigated the fight.

During the Nov. 15 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Dillard noted she’s not surprised that people agree with Samuels because she believes her ex-friend “has a Ph.D. in spinning and creating alternative universes for themselves.”

Additionally, the former Miss United States thinks Samuels has orchestrated an “ignorant band of loyal followers” by convincing them with her repeated “lies.”

Viewers will likely get a clearer picture of the entire story during the highly-anticipated reunion. The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo.
