The Real Housewives of Potomac stars vacationed in Portugal for their season 5 cast trip. During the second day, Gizelle Bryant wanted to initiate the newest housewife Wendy Osefo into the group by pranking her. The producers allowed the group to watch Osefo’s reaction to finding fake bugs in her bed on their monitors. They explained why they made the rare move to “break the fourth wall” during the After Show.

Wendy Osefo joined ‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ in season 5

Introduced by Candiace Dillard, political commentator Dr. Wendy Osefo became a full-time housewife in the fifth season. She started on the wrong foot with Ashley Darby during a girls’ trip to Monique Samuels’ cabin, but the two worked it out.

Osefo also didn’t see eye to eye with Karen Huger, a housewife she says she previously knew from their time sitting on a board together. However, Huger claimed she didn’t know the political commentator.

When Samuels and Dillard got into a physical altercation, Osefo wanted Huger, who maintains a neutral role, to hold the podcast host responsible. At an event hosted by Osefo, Huger attempted to talk to Dillard about her position, but the political commentator intervened to make sure it didn’t get heated.

Huger poked fun at the way Osefo interrupted the conversation, referring to her movement as “slithering” and turned it into a joke.

The housewives pranked Osefo during cast trip to Portugal

All the ladies, except for Samuels, traveled to Portugal for the cast trip this season. After a day of tobogganing and revealing truths at dinner, the housewives, namely Gizelle Bryant, wanted to initiate Osefo into the group by pranking her.

Therefore, she purchased fake snakes and spiders and put them in her bed, with Dillard distracting the newest housewife. Once Osefo went up to her room, Bryant, Darby, and Robyn Dixon hid in the bathroom and jumped out at her, pretending that was the prank.

After they left, they wanted to see how the political commentator would react when she found the rubber critters in her bed, and producers let them watch her on their monitors.

The group sat outside of her room and laughed at the political commentator’s reaction.

‘RHOP’ producers on breaking the fourth wall

During the After Show, the ladies noted how much fun they had during the prank while Huger called it a “sorority girl move” and found it “annoying.” Executive producer Kemar Bassaragh explained Bryant planned on pranking Osefo before they arrived in Portugal, and the ladies “begged” the crew to let them watch.

Vice president of Current Production Josh Brown weighed in on allowing the ladies to “break the fourth wall.” He claimed they usually have to have a reason and only do so in “dramatic situations.”

Although Brown noted allowing the ladies to use the monitors didn’t meet those qualifications, the crew let them do it anyway because “it was funny.”

Dillard found the situation hilarious, and Darby called it a “huge plus” that the producers allowed them to use the cameras. The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo.
