Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard got into a physical altercation

In October 2019, ex-best friends Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard fought while filming the fifth season of Real Housewives of Potomac. According to previous sources, Candiace instigated the fight by throwing a glass into Monique’s face, causing the mother-of-three to retaliate by slamming her head on a table.

Reportedly, police showed up to the scene but did not arrest anyone. A few weeks after the altercation, Candiace filed a complaint with the court, who pressed second-degree assault charges against the podcaster.

Monique quickly countered, but charges against both women were dropped. Even though Candiace has implied she intends to sue Monique in civil court, she has yet to pursue that action.

How their lawyers described the fight

After the charges were filed, Candiace’s attorney claimed Monique “viciously attacked” his client. Monique’s attorney argued the former Miss USA claims were “completely one-sided, inaccurate, and unwarranted” and that Candiace “has a public reputation for aggressive, belligerent, and threatening behavior” for her actions on RHOP.

The podcaster’s attorney also claimed Monique defended herself “in the face of more very aggressive behavior” by Candiace. After Monique filed a counter criminal summons, her attorney named the Atlanta-native as the aggressor.

At the same time, Candiace and her side maintained their story that the mother-of-three threatened and attacked her. Even though they argued over who instigated the fight, both sides agreed the footage would vindicate their client.

‘RHOP’ Season 5 trailer seemingly depicts Monique Samuels as the aggressor

In the trailer for upcoming Real Housewives of Potomac Season 5, Candiace repeatedly asked Monique if she’s going to “drag” her, to which the mother-of-three continually nods while flipping the former pageant beauty’s hair.

Newcomer Wendy Osefo reached from behind Candiace in an attempt to stop Monique from touching Candiace’s hair, and then it turned violent. The trailer did not show the entire fight, instead focused on the other women’s reactions.

Judging from the clip, Gizelle Bryant is one of the more outspoken ones regarding the altercation as she believes the RHOP ladies have consistently held themselves “above the stereotype.”

However, Gizelle angrily pointed out that “in five minutes, she took it away.” Presumably, she’s referencing Monique because sources reported that Gizelle refused to film with the mother-of-three to get her fired.

Her other Green-Eyed Bandit, Robyn Dixon, joined her with Karen Huger and Ashley Darby continuing to shoot with the podcaster. Even though the trailer doesn’t show the entire fight, it supposedly depicts the start of it, which begins with Monique flipping Candiace’s hair.

While it’s unclear who threw the first punch, the podcaster seemingly instigated it by initially getting into the pageant beauty’s face and touching her. Watch everything play out in Real Housewives of Potomac Season 5 premiering on May 3, 2020, at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.
