After The Real Housewives of Atlanta ended its season 13 run, Sundays on Bravo have been housewives-less. However, the cable network surprised fans this week by dropping the trailer for The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 6. The preview also reveals the new housewife joining the cast after Monique Samuels quit following a turbulent season 5.

When does the new season of ‘RHOP’ start?

Bravo gifted fans with the trailer for RHOP Season 6 on Monday, May 24. The cable network surprised viewers with a preview of the fan-favorite franchise. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the trailer’s vibe was very reminiscent of the “Paper Boy” promo David LaChapelle created to promote Desperate Housewives on UK’s Channel 4.

The cast this season includes Wendy Osefo, Robyn Dixon, Candiace Dillard, Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, and newbie Mia Thornton.

“One thing you learn about living in Potomac… it’s a town of smoke and mirrors. You never know who you can trust,” Osefo says at the start of the trailer.

Then viewers get to see moments of the RHOP ladies having fun, popping bottles of champagne, and dancing on a stripper pole. Darby is seen with her newborn baby and Thornton gets her moment as the newest member of the cast. The latter opens up about her life and reveals she was in the foster care system.

Things then take a turn and the real drama starts. Dillard is seen feuding with her husband, Darby is seen crying, Bryant says long-distance relationships are difficult, and Dixon yells at Thornton.

Osefo is seemingly feuding with Bryant during one moment of the trailer and the iconic scene involves Thornton literally tossing a salad. Dillard is at the receiving end of the salad in the controversial confrontation.

RHOP is expected to premiere on Sunday, July 11 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.

Who is Mia Thornton?

Thornton joins RHOP in season 6 after Samuels opted to leave the franchise following four seasons. According to Bravo’s official bio for Thornton, the new star “marches to the beat of her own drum as an entrepreneur, franchise owner, and regional developer.”

The newest RHOP housewife is a graduate of Southeastern Institute, where she received a degree in Neuromuscular Massage Therapy. Following her graduation, Thornton landed a job as a Clinic Director. The position led her to a partnership with a Fortune 500 company and ownership of Massage Envy Spas.

Thornton has been married to her husband Gordon for nine years. They both live in Maryland with their three children, Joshua, Jeremiah, and Juliana.

Why did Monique Samuels quit?

Samuels announced she was leaving the RHOP franchise following the end of season 5. The entrepreneur had a major feud with co-star Dillard that led to a physical fight. After the incident, some of the housewives refused to film with Samuels. In the end, the podcast host believed it was best for her to leave.

“I wanted to represent real Black love and show people something outside what the stereotype has been on TV,” she said during her Instagram Live in December 2020. “Unfortunately, this season I played right into that stereotype. I was working overtime to check myself because that’s the opposite of what I want to display. I’m always going to be a great example or a role model for my kids and you have to know when enough is enough.”

The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 6 will be the first one to film without Samuels as a full-time cast member since she joined the show in season 2.
