It’s been a hot minute since the last new episode of Rick and Morty aired on Adult Swim, but season 5 is finally here. However, viewers who watch the animated comedy on streaming services will have to wait a little while longer. So will Rick and Morty Season 5 be released on Hulu and HBO Max? Here’s what you need to know.

Adult Swim released the ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 5 premiere on June 20, 2021

On June 20, Rick and Morty fans got to watch the season 5 premiere live on Adult Swim. The network also dropped the new episode, titled “Mort Dinner with Andre,” on YouTube. So it’s available to stream online for free.

Meanwhile, viewers can tune into new episodes of Rick and Morty Season 5 on Sunday nights at 11 p.m. ET on Adult Swim. Thus far, the network has confirmed the release dates of the next two episodes.

On June 27, Rick and Morty Season 5 will drop episode 2, “Mortyplicity.” Then the third episode, “A Rickconvenient Mort,” will air on July 4. And for now, Rick and Morty fans will have to wait and see whether a midseason hiatus will eventually disrupt the schedule.

As of this write-up, Hulu and HBO Max have yet to confirm when Rick and Morty Season 5 will be released. It’s also unlikely the streaming services will have a date in the near future.

According to The Hollywood Reporter in October 2019, new episodes of Rick and Morty will be available to watch on Hulu and HBO Max about five months after the finale. For reference, the fourth season finale aired on May 31 and dropped on streaming services on Nov. 1 in 2020. So we’ll have to wait until the Rick and Morty Season 5 finale to determine when the show will drop on Hulu and HBO Max.

Will ‘Rick and Morty’ ever leave Hulu or HBO Max?

While many Rick and Morty fans must wait for season 5 to drop on Hulu and HBO Max, they can still watch the first four seasons on the streaming giants right now. Meanwhile, the Adult Swim series isn’t leaving either platform anytime soon.

Following 31 episodes of Rick and Morty, the network renewed the show for 70 more. Then The Hollywood Reporter revealed Hulu extended its deal with WarnerMedia, and the streaming service will continue to have the rights to all 101 episodes. HBO Max is also backed by WarnerMedia.
