‘Riverdale’: Jughead’s Girlfriend in Season 5 Will Be a ‘Hipster’ Trainwreck

Jughead and his friends will take a seven-year time jump when Riverdale returns for Season 5. And Bughead shippers may be a little disappointed to find out that the Serpent King’s love life will be far more complicated as an adult. According to casting reports, Jughead will have a new girlfriend next season, and she’s going to be a total hipster. 

Where ‘Riverdale’ Season 4 left off with Bughead

For a long time, it looked like Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), aka Bughead, were endgame. But in Season 4, after Archie (KJ Apa) and Betty shared some intense romantic moments, fans realized their bond was not as solid as they thought. 

Betty and Archie kept their brief fling a secret from Jughead and Veronica (Camila Mendes). And there’s no telling what that revelation would do to their relationships. 

And by the season finale, all four hinted they would be heading in different directions after high school. So this secret affair, combined with the long-distances between them, could drive a deeper wedge into their romances and friendships.

‘Riverdale’ Season 5 will start where Season 4 left off and then take a time-jump

Season 4 of Riverdale wasn’t meant to end the way it did. The season was cut short due to the coronavirus shut down in March, so fans got a finale that was really meant to be a mid-season episode. 

So when the CW show returns for Season 5, it will pick up where Season 4 ended — with the mystery of the sinister videotape stalker. But a few episodes into the new season, that storyline will wrap up and lead into a time jump for the Riverdale crew. 

“Season five, we’re actually doing a, I believe, seven-year time jump into the future,” Lili Reinhart said in an interview with The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, after confirming the show would begin filming Season 5 this fall.

“So we’re not going to be teenagers anymore,” she added. “I think it will be nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto, our showrunner, was like, ‘Yeah, let’s, like, revamp.’ We’re not just stuck in high school for seven seasons.”

Jughead will have a new girlfriend in Season 5

By the Season 4 finale, things were already beginning to go downhill for Bughead. And it looks they’re going to call it quits pretty soon because according to the call sheet for Riverdale, Jughead will be in a new relationship in Season 5. 

“A train-wreck-y hipster, Jessica is Jughead’s live-in girlfriend,” the call sheet reads. “Jessica makes no secret of the fact that she’s done with their relationship since she can see that she’s not as important to him as the book he’s not writing. RECURRING GUEST STAR.”

After reading the character description, it’s clear that Jughead’s new girlfriend is not exactly his type. And it’s also obvious that they are not in a very healthy relationship.
