‘Riverdale’ Star Lili Reinhart Reveals How She’s Dealing With the ‘Loss’ From This Past Year
Lili Reinhart has been through a lot this year. She went through a very public breakup with her Riverdale co-star Cole Sprouse, her beloved dog Milo was viciously attacked, and like many others, she felt the emotional toll of quarantine and self-isolation. In a recent interview, Reinhart opened up about her loss, and how she’s dealing with all the “sh*t” she’s been through this last year.
Lili Reinhart dated Cole Sprouse for two years before they broke up
Reinhart and Sprouse started dating in 2017, just months after meeting on the set of Riverdale. The two attended high-profile events together and shared loving photos of each other on social media.
But in the spring of 2020, while the entire world was in quarantine, fans noticed Reinhart and Sprouse’s absence from each other’s Instagram pages. The two were clearly not quarantining together, and when Sprouse was seen with Kaia Garber, some accused him of cheating on Reinhart. But in an August 2020 Instagram post, Sprouse confirmed their split.
“Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March,” Sprouse wrote. “What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love. I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.”
Her dog Milo was attacked by another dog
In April 2020, Reinhart took her beloved rescue pup, Milo, for a walk in Los Angeles. In an Instagram story, the actor revealed that during their outing, another, much larger dog attacked Milo, leaving hi with life-threatening wounds. “It was pretty bad, I had to rush him to the animal hospital,” she said.
Milo went into surgery and is doing much better now. But in a followup story, Reinhart noted that the experience has left them both traumatized. “I keep having flashbacks,” the actor admitted. “It was honestly the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced.”
How Lili Reinhart is dealing with the loss of this past year
In a recent interview with Nylon, Reinhart talked about her personal struggles and explained how taxing this past year has been. “I’ve been through some shit, the last year, a lot of loss,” she said. “I needed to learn self-love, basically. It’s a very hard thing to do. How the f*ck do you love yourself?”
Reinhart revealed that she consulted a “frequency healer” who taught her how to meditate and connect to herself and the world around her. “It was very spiritual for me, really connecting me to my Christian roots, and also just to myself,” she explained. “It felt like a good way to wrap up the last couple months of my life.”
The Riverdale star will resume filming Season 5 this fall. But she noted that this quarantine downtime has really given her the chance to work on herself.
“I feel very grateful because, without this time, I would have just kept trucking along,” Reinhart added. “This gave me a time to, for the first time in four years, step back and process what has happened in the past couple years, process my emotions, and just process my sh*t.”
