Though he’s done plenty of movies since Twilight, Robert Pattinson will likely always be known as Edward Cullen. Before Pattinson was a member of the undead, he was a teenage wizard. Potterheads will note that the actor portrayed Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. While Pattinson was only in one of the eight films, his role in the fourth film was memorable as he was one of the Triwizard champions and also a Hogwarts student. But what was it like for Pattinson to join such a huge franchise midway through?

Robert Pattinson got candid about what it was like to play Cedric Diggory

In a 2019 interview with HFPA, Pattinson got candid about what it was like to be cast in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. According to the actor, the experience was a little surreal. All of a sudden, he was hanging out with people he’d only ever read about and traveling all over the world for the movie’s global press tour.

“I remember going to Tokyo for the first time and sitting in my room, looking out over the city and being like ‘How has this happened?'” Pattinson recalled. But despite what a huge deal the Harry Potter movies were, The Batman star said that life on set was pretty grounded. He was actually surprised by the fact that school was made a priority on set because he knew of sets where that wasn’t the case.

Life on the set of the ‘Harry Potter’ movies

“It was a really nice environment on Harry Potter, ” Pattinson shared. “Even compared to movies I’ve done since, it was very protected, the way the kids were treated. I’ve watched movies where you see a kid who’s got their tutor and it doesn’t exactly seem like they’re really going to school. I mean, it’s just kind of [like] they are fulfilling a legal requirement. But in Harry Potter, it was like they were at school and they were kind of doing work at the same time.”

Pattinson has also been candid about the fact that his fellow Harry Potter castmates were down-to-earth and friendly.
