Things are more than a bit chaotic for the British royal family at the moment. At the end of last year, Prince Andrew was booted from the inner-circle of the royal family after his scandalous interview on BBC News Night, where he defended his two-decade-long relationship with the late financier and sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. That was just the beginning of the royal family’s troubles.

In early Jan. 2020, just two days after they returned to the U.K. from their extended holiday hiatus, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex announced they would be stepping down from their roles as senior working members of the royal family. The announcement came as a shock to everyone from the royal fans to Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Unfortunately, with the news of a new royal divorce, the official closing of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Buckingham Palace office, and a major mishap on the Royal Family website, it doesn’t look like things are going to go smoothly anytime soon.

The British royal family is very concerned about the state of the monarchy

With Megxit, royal experts and the remaining senior members of the royal family are deeply concerned that it may have created a domino effect for unhappy royals to leave the fold. It’s also exposed the royal family to critics who’ve said they’ve been obsolete for years.

To combat this narrative, the future Crowned Kings, Prince Charles and Prince William have been working overtime to create a more welcoming and relaxed image of the royals. This was something the Sussexes mastered.

“It is interesting isn’t it, because we are used to PDAs with Harry and Meghan,” ITV Royal Editor Camilla Tominey reflected. “Have they learnt something from this? This idea of relatable, touchable monarchy that is more like us than ‘them’ and less cut off and cold. We saw this a bit with the Mary Berry Christmas special with William and Kate making soufflés and looking very much at home I think they’re trying to project themselves as this family unit. I think the Cambridges want to project themselves and their branding as the future so people can have faith in this institution, which, let’s face it, has been rocked.”

The royal family is reassessing their approach

Though no one can be sure how Megixt will turn out in the long-run it has opened the royal family up for some self-critique, to look at where they might have been wrong when it came to dealing with the bullying and scrutiny Markle endured.

“Harry and Meghan’s decision was certainly a big one, and must have been very upsetting for some of their family members—but it has also opened up the opportunity for others to assess their own lives and situations, and to take radical steps to change what is not working out for them,” Psychologist Dr. Becky Spelman told Express

The Royal Family’s website was linked to a porn site

It looks like the hits just keep on coming for the royals. Since so much is happening, it appears that things have slipped through the cracks. Daily Mail is reporting that a link to one of Prince Harry’s patronages Dolen Cymru (a Welsh charity), was “unwittingly sending visitors” to an “X-rated” porn site.

Instead of sending visitors to Dolen Cymru which, “began in 1985 and has developed educational links, wider young people’s links, health, churches, women’s organisations,” visitors were sent to a site featuring live sex shows.

Thankfully the error has been fixed, and hopefully, Queen Elizabeth never has to know about it.
