Celebrities with large fan bases are guaranteed to make sales on their liquor, but some are better than others. Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are Hollywood elite. They are famously so close with Taylor Swift that she has songs named after their kids. It would be easy for Reynolds to sell any product. And — thanks perhaps in part due to his anxiety — Reynolds would never settle for an inferior product. His gin is the perfect example.

Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin made the list

Years ago, Esquire set out on a mission to rank celebrity liquors. The task was daunting, even back then. There were only 37 on the list at the time, but some were particularly hard to acquire. Now new celebrity liquors are coming out more often When the 2021 list was compiled, the author mentioned several new liquors would soon hit the market.

The list includes any liquor that is promoted by a celebrity, as well as the liquors that have celebrity owners or investors. The list doesn’t include beer, cognac, wines, sakes, seltzers, meads, or canned cocktails. It is focused exclusively on liquors. While consumers might buy the alcohol to feel closer to living like a particular celebrity, some liquors are pretty good, while others are awful.

How did Reynolds’ gin rank?

One celebrity liquor that ranked highly is Aviation Gin. But a celebrity didn’t actually create the gin. In fact, it was already an established brand when Reynolds decided to heavily invest in it in 2018. While he had no part in creating the gin, there is no denying his role as its spokesperson has made a significant impact on its success. Reynolds has kept the gin’s conversation active and relevant, from hilarious commercials to creating fake Amazon reviews. In 2020, Reynolds sold his stakes in the gin, and in only three years, he profited $610 million.

Not only is Aviation Gin profitable, but it is also palatable. Esquire ranks the gin as the third-best celebrity liquor on the market. That isn’t the only praise it is receiving either. The GIN is IN said Aviation Gin is “the gin equivalent of when an artist writes a manifesto.” The site ranks the gin an impressive four and a half out of five stars.

Other celebrity liquors on the list

While Aviation Gin was a celebrity liquor success, others were even better, and some were a lot worse. Sweetens Cove Bourbon, invested in by athletes Peyton Manning and Andy Roddick, topped off the list of celebrity liquors. Sweetens Cove is a three-cask-strength Tennessee bourbon created by Marianne Eaves. It scored a nine out of ten on both taste and star power.

On the other end of the spectrum, Ron Jeremy’s self-titled rum was Esquire’s bottom pick. The second to last choice was none other than Tesla Tequila by Elon Musk. Musk is known for his publicity stunts, but this tequila is very real, albeit terrible. Tesla Tequila sells at $250 a bottle, and thanks to avid Musk fans, it sold out quickly upon release. Unfortunately, Esquire rates the tequila’s taste as a five out of ten. They also note that there are TikTok videos poking fun at how hard the tequila is to pour.
