Husband to actress Blake Lively and voice of Pikachu in the recently released, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, Ryan Reynolds is the highest paid actor thus far in 2019, according to Variety.
How did Reynolds reach the No. 1 spot? He’s getting paid $27 million to play the lead role in Michael Bay’s film Six Underground, about a group of vigilantes backed by a billionaire. His paycheck puts him squarely in the top spot among fellow big name actors such as Denzel Washington and Margot Robbie.
At the age of 15, Reynolds landed his first acting gig on Fifteen, a Nickelodeon program. He played one of the main characters and earned $150 per episode.
“For me, I thought I was, like, a gajillionaire,” Reynolds said years later. “For $150 a day, it was like a dream come true,” he added.
Ryan Reynolds’ movie roles
Reynolds has been steadily working in the film industry for decades. Arguably what became a turning point for the actor’s career came in 2005 when he starred opposite Anna Farris and Amy Smart in the comedy, Just Friends.
Since then his comedy skills have been showcased in many, if not all, of his acting roles, in some way or another. He got an even bigger chance to show off his comedic stylings in the 2009 film, The Proposal, opposite Sandra Bullock.
Reynolds became a superhero in the film, Green Lantern, in 2011. Although the film didn’t do very well at the box office, Reynolds met his future wife, Lively, on set.
Five years later in 2016, Reynolds starred in Deadpool, which proved to be a major success, earning more than $700 million on a film budget of $58 million.
Since then Reynolds starred in the sequel (the second installment earned another $700 million at the box office) and is set to star in a third installment in the coming years.

Reynolds’ net worth is estimated to be $75 million. In 2017 alone, he made $21.5 million and was ranked among the highest paid actors of the year.
In addition to the big paychecks Reynolds receives from his acting roles, he brings in cash from his gin company, Aviation American Gin. He bought a stake in the company in 2018.
Reynolds’ wife Lively, plugged her husband’s gin company in her recent film, A Simple Favor.
In one scene, Lively’s character made a martini with Aviation American Gin, sneakily leaving the bottle on the counter in full view of the camera, giving her husband’s company a big shout-out in the film.
What’s next for Ryan Reynolds?
The actor has a number of projects coming up. According to his IMDb profile, he’s starring in three films that are set to premiere in 2020.
First, the sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard named The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. Then there’s Free Guy about a bank teller who discovers he’s inside a video game. Finally, Reynolds will be starring in The Croods 2 in 2020.
