Sarah Michelle Gellar loves ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ prom episode, calls it ‘beautiful and heartbreaking’

In a Reddit Ask Me Anything better known as an AMA, Gellar let Buffy fans in on her favorite episodes of the popular series. First up is Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 20: “The Prom.”

Gellar said “The Prom” is one of her favorite Buffy episodes “because I just love that whole story, and I thought it just encapsulated the show so well.”

“It was beautiful and heartbreaking,” she added.

Written by Marti Noxon and directed by David Solomon, “The Prom” chronicles Buffy and the gang’s time at their big high school dance. Buffy wants Angel (David Boreanaz) to be her date to the prom.

Throughout the episode, the couple wrestles with what the future of their relationship will look like. Ultimately, Angel decides he and Buffy should split up.

Meanwhile, Buffy fights hell hounds so her friends and classmates can have a normal high school experience.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ silent episode is a favorite of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s

Another of Gellar’s favorite Buffy episodes happens to be one where she has few speaking parts. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 Episode 10: “Hush” follows Buffy and her friends as their voices are stolen by evil villains. Silently they have to figure out how to get their voices back and save the people of Sunnydale.

Gellar says she enjoys the episode because of its unique storyline.

“I also love ‘Hush’ because I think it’s not just the scariest episode we’ve ever done but the challenge to do a silent episode – I thought it would be easy but it was way harder,” she said.

Gellar’s not alone on this one. “Hush” is a Buffy fan favorite. The episode is ranked No. 3 out of 144 on IMDb

Another standout episode of Buffy for Gellar is a particularly sad one. Gellar told fans Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5 Episode 16: “The Body” is a favorite of hers because it was challenging to not only see Buffy lose her mother, Joyce (Kristine Sutherland), but to film the scene when Buffy discovers her body.

Gellar said it’s her favorite “because it was beyond difficult and heart-wrenching to shoot.”

Plus, the actor performed the scene where Buffy finds her mother’s body in one take that lasted nearly five minutes.

Just like “Hush,” Gellar’s not alone in picking “The Body” as a favorite. The episode takes the No. 2 spot on IMDb with a 9.7-rating.
