Scarlett Johansson Once ‘Got Distracted’ By Chris Evans on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’: ‘You’re a Beast!’
Marvel Cinematic Universe actors Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have a long history of working together. They teamed up for nearly all of their entries in the blockbuster franchise, beginning with The Avengers and ending with the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame.
Unless there’s a Steve Rogers cameo in Black Widow (which is always possible, though not likely), there isn’t another Evans-Johansson project on the horizon as of October 2020. But the friends and frequent co-stars will always have fun and silly memories to look back on, like this moment from The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson go way back
The actors got to know one another years before the MCU kicked off. Their first film together was The Perfect Score, a 2004 teen comedy. They then played love interests in the 2007 dramedy The Nanny Diaries. Johansson joined Evans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier before the second ensemble Marvel entry, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Though their characters aren’t romantically linked in the MCU, their chemistry earned praise from viewers. “It’s really a result of 10 years of knowing somebody and being able to have a kind of intimacy with them that I think you get from just spending a lot of time with somebody and knowing their soft underbelly,” Johansson said in a 2020 EW video.
They promoted ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ together
“This is our fifth movie,” said Johansson on The Ellen DeGeneres Show while promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron. “We’ve been working together since we were, I don’t know, 17, I think? Or something like that.” “So you must know him well,” said DeGeneres as Evans sneaked up behind Johansson. “I know him very well, Johansson replied. Too well.”
As often happens on DeGeneres’ talk show, Evans jumped out and scared his co-star. “That was terrifying!” Johansson cried as the audience cheers drowned her out, the two actors embracing. “It was his idea,” added DeGeneres.
Johansson was ‘distracted’ by the sight of Evans’ body
To highlight just how close they are, DeGeneres that the co-stars play a game in which they answered true or false questions about the other. Both got their first questions correct, but then a photo of Evans in the 2011 romantic comedy What’s Your Number? appeared on the screen.
After a moment, Johansson asked, “Wait, what am I looking at?” of the image, in which Evans appears mostly naked, holding an apple. When she got kind of apple wrong, she replied, “I got distracted, sorry.” After Evans got his next question wrong, Johansson’s next one was accompanied by a different shirtless photo of her friend. “What’s happening?” she said.
Finally, after Evans got his last question wrong, the pattern repeated with a third photo of Evans shirtless. “Yeah, he looks muy caliente,” Johansson said in response to DeGeneres’ question. “Look at you, you’re a beast!” she added to Evans, pointing to his muscles.
