Where Season 4 left off

When fans last saw Jane, Sutton, and Kat, there were major changes happening in the main characters’ lives. Jane broke up with Ryan because of his infidelity and went ahead with a preventative double mastectomy. She was also given her own vertical with Scarlet.

Sutton and Richard got married, and Sutton was promoted to being a Scarlet stylist. While Sutton and Jane were promoted, Kat lost her job at Scarlet for going up against RJ Safford for his personal and political beliefs.

Regarding the upcoming episodes, Katie Stevens, who plays Jane, told TVLine, “… you are going to see Jane, post-surgery, in her recovery and how she deals with this new reality that she has.”

The actress also said that although Kat will not be at Scarlet, the show will still find ways to keep all three main characters together.

“The show is about the three of us, so they’re always going to be together, whether it be at someone’s apartment or at a bar or something. Just like when Jane, in the beginning of Season 2, was at Insight and the girls were FaceTiming her in the fashion closet, we’re still going to be doing that with Kat, too. We’re going to find a place [that’s] like our new fashion closet, but I don’t want to give too much away,” she said.

What to expect from new episodes of ‘The Bold Type’

Going forward, the three women will be navigating changes in their lives.

“Jane struggles to come to terms with her new body and manage her new responsibilities at Scarlet. Sutton revels in her new roles as Mrs. Hunter and stylist, but then receives shocking news which upends her world. Kat tries to find a new direction in her life,” reads a description of the latter half of Season 4.

While the fourth season of The Bold Type was originally supposed to have 18 episodes, TVLine reported the season will only have 16 episodes due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We were in our last two episodes of the season [before production shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak], so we were like halfway through shooting 17 and 18, which were our final two episodes, and they’re so good. So I really hope that when all of this coronavirus craziness settles down, that we’ll have the opportunity to go back and just finish out those last 10 days that we had, because it’s a really incredible finale,” Stevens told TVLine.

‘The Bold Type’ released previews for the new episodes

Leading up to the new episodes of Season 4 of The Bold Type, Freeform has released multiple teaser trailers and clips. Based on the trailers, Jane struggles coming to terms with her double mastectomy and she tries to move on from Ryan.

“These don’t feel like me,” Jane says in the official trailer for the new episodes. “I haven’t dealt with it.”

Kat seems to be struggling after losing her job at Scarlet, and she’s seen in the trailer also losing her apartment.

“I already lost Scarlet and my apartment. I can’t lose anything else,” she tells Alex in the trailer.

While Episode 10 of Season 4 ended with Sutton getting married and getting a promotion, it seems there is trouble ahead for Sutton and Richard. Not only does the trailer hint that Sutton might be pregnant, the trailer ends with a tearful conversation between Sutton and Richard.

“I can’t give you what you want,” Sutton tells him through tears.
