Selena Gomez has been in the spotlight for more than half her life. After guest-starring in TV shows like Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, she nabbed the lead in her own show, Wizards of Waverly Place, which firmly put her on the map. Shortly after, Gomez launched her music career, and that, coupled with her high-profile relationships with other celebrities like her long-time best friend, Taylor Swift, made Gomez a household name.

But the media wasn’t just interested in Gomez’s professional life, they were also incredibly invested in her personal life. Suddenly, tabloids were discussing the actor’s romantic relationships, health issues, and more. The speculation got so bad that Gomez felt the need to reclaim her narrative. Back in 2014, she addressed the rumors and opened up about some of the things she was experiencing. “For a while, I felt like an object,” she told Elle in a recent interview. “It felt gross for a long time.”

Selena Gomez has received praise for her new show ‘Only Murders in the Building’

These days, Gomez is much more in control of the narrative surrounding her. And, thanks to her many different projects, people are paying just as much attention to her professional life as they are her personal life. The first three episodes of Gomez’s new show, Only Murders in the Building, have just dropped on Hulu. Though this is Gomez’s first series regular role since her days portraying Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place, the reviews for her are pretty strong.

Of course, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer isn’t only receiving praise for her acting. Her music career is thriving also. Her most recent albums, Revelación and Rare, have done very well and she’s rumored to be working on her next solo studio album. Gomez has also found success behind the camera as well and has served as the executive producer on a number of projects. Furthermore, her cosmetics company, Rare Beauty, is thriving and has already won some coveted awards.

Why the ‘Boyfriend’ singer loves her cooking show, ‘Selena + Chef’

But one project of Gomez’s that fans are truly obsessed with is her HBO series Selena + Chef. In the series, Gomez is in her home learning to cook from some of the best chefs. Fans of the series find the show incredibly relatable and love that they get glimpses of Gomez’s personality, friends, and family. The show, for which Gomez also serves as an executive producer, has made the singer quite happy. It’s also given her the opportunity to let her guard down a bit. “It’s the most ‘myself’ I’ve been to the world,” she declared.
