Though many think of her primarily as a pop star, Rare artist Selena Gomez is also an actor. Getting her start on the Disney Channel as a teenager, she graduated to such films as Spring Breakers and The Fundamentals of Caring in her 20s.

Gomez tried something new with her latest live-action role in The Dead Don’t Die. Though technically a horror-comedy flick, she is apparently quite a fan of the thriller and horror genres when it comes to her own viewing. In fact, in an April 30 Instagram Live stream, she revealed some of her top recommendations for fans.

‘The Hunt’ (2020)

The Hunt a brand-new film, premiering in theaters in March 2020 just as movie theater shutdowns began. Produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and written by Damon Lindelof (creator of shows like Lost and Watchmen), it also features an all-star cast, including Hilary Swank, Betty Gilpin, and Emma Roberts. It’s about a group of humans who are held captive and hunted.

‘Hounds of Love’ (2017)

Hounds of Love premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2016 before getting a theatrical release the following year. The Australian film depicts a teenager who is held captive by a couple and tries to turn them against each other in order to survive.

‘Ready or Not’ (2019)

Ready or Not is, like The Dead Don’t Die, more of a horror-comedy. Samara Weaving stars as a new bride who marries into a wealthy family, only to find out that they’re not exactly who they say they are. Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell, and Melanie Scrofano of Wynonna Earp fame co-star.

‘Sweetheart’

Another recent Blumhouse release is Sweetheart, a gory survival horror film. The film stars Kiersey Clemons as a shipwrecked woman who comes up against a monster. If her friends don’t believe her, who will?

‘American Animal’ (2018)

Getting into the thriller side of things, Gomez also recommended the crime drama American Animals, which was based on a real heist that occurred at a university library in 2003. Evan Peters stars along with Blake Jenner and Ann Dowd.

‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ (2009)

Most of Gomez’s recommendations have come out in the past few years, but she took fans back more than a decade with The Disappearance of Alice Creed. The British noir thriller stars Gemma Arterton as the titular character, who is kidnapped by two convicts who she works to get the better of.

‘Hot Summer Nights’ (2018)

Hot Summer Nights is another crime drama. It follows Timothée Chalamet‘s Daniel, who spends a summer selling drugs and getting involved with all of the wrong people. With so many secrets being kept, it’s only a matter of time before it all comes back to him…

‘Knives Out’ (2019)

Very rarely does a mystery thriller make it the Oscars. But then again, most don’t star Chris Evans in his first role post-Avengers Endgame; aren’t written and directed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson; and don’t feature an all-star cast including Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, and many, many more. Knives Out was one of everyone’s favorite films of 2019, so it’s not surprising it made Gomez’s list.

‘Revenge’ (2018)

Finally, Gomez couldn’t say enough good things about Revenge. The French action-horror film stars Matilda Lutz, who goes on vacation with Richard, a man she’s been secretly dating. When Richard turns against her, she’ll stop at nothing to get her revenge.
