We can almost hear millions of Selenators screaming in joy. Selena Gomez has officially landed her very first number one hit for “Lose You To Love Me.” On November 4, 2019, Billboard released its weekly chart entitled the Billboard Hot 100. The chart, which has become a staple in the music industry, is a standard record of songs that is published weekly by Billboard Magazine. The chart rankings are dependant on several different factors. Streaming within the United States, sales (both digital and physical), and radio airtime play are all taken into consideration to decide which songs land on top.

Lose You To Love Me and other well-known Selena Gomez songs

Less than two weeks after Gomez’s new song, “Lose You To Love Me” debuted (which is one of two of her latest singles), she found herself topping the Billboard Hot 100. Though Gomez’s music career started over a decade ago (first with her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene and then launching her solo career in 2013) Gomez had yet to score a number one hit before now. That may be hard for many people to believe as Gomez has a number of well-known, catchy hits. “Hands To Myself”, “Naturally”, “Good For You”, “The Heart Wants What It Wants”, and “Come And Get It” to name a few.

But despite her wide array of songs, Gomez’s most vulnerable song to date is the one that scored Gomez her first number one hit. The highly-emotional ballad is a small glimpse into what her life has been like for the past four years. Taking to her YouTube page, Gomez got candid about the true meaning of her number one single. ‘This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself,” the 27-year-old confessed in a pinned comment.

Gomez thanks her fans on Instagram

Since releasing “Lose You To Love Me”, Gomez has been very candid about the ups and downs she’s grappled with since her last album released. In fact, right as the number one song debuted, she thanked her fans for sticking by her on what has often been a tumultuous journey. “Thank you all for standing by my side through the highs and lows. I couldn’t do it without you all and I can’t wait to start my next adventure with you. Lose You To Love Me is out now,” Gomez shared to her Instagram page right as the song released.

Support for the song has obviously been overwhelmingly positive and Gomez is currently celebrating the success of “Lose You To Love Me.” “My first number 1!! This song is so dear to my heart. I’ve been working so hard to make this album as honest and fun as possible while remaining vulnerable enough to share where I am in life. I love you deeply and thank you so much for listening. I want to thank each and every person that was apart of this moment that I’ll never forget,” Gomez said in her latest Instagram post. We’re so excited for the next era of Gomez. Though this may be her first number one hit, we’re certain it won’t be her last.
