Everything We Know About Selena Gomez’s New Album

Selenators…this is not a drill. Selena Gomez has made the official announcement that new music is headed our way. After four long years, Gomez went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to confirm that her third solo studio album is complete. “I’m actually done. I have to do a few finishing things with it, but I’m just relieved” she told Fallon when he asked if we should be preparing for new music from The Dead Don’t Die, actress. But just what can we expect from this highly-anticipated album? Here’s everything we know so far.

Years in the making

This album didn’t come easy for the “Survivors” singer. In fact, it took her years to even get to a place where she felt solid in the body of work she was creating. “It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album and it’s just because I had such huge moments in my life personally. How was I going to capture that and how was I going to actually feel good about what I was saying?” the actress questioned.

Indeed the 26-year-old has had many obstacles to contend with since she released her last album, Revival. Gomez recently opened up about her struggles with mental health, the pressures of social media, her ongoing battle with her autoimmune disease, lupus, and her kidney transplant back in 2017. But, despite all that the singer has suffered, she has managed to capture the essence of the ups and downs of the last four years for her new album. “I just kept going and I’m relieved now,” the songstress said about the hurdles she overcame to produce new music.

Soulful pop

But what kind of sound can we expect from the new album? Gomez admits that we’ll get some things we expect and some things that are a bit new to her but reflect her uniquely soulful style. Of course, the pop princess will have some catchy songs for us to dance to, but she also plans to hit us with some more soulful melodies.

“I think there’s always going to be a sense of strong pop in my music, but I definitely explored more with electric guitar, a lot of more soulful tracks underneath things, acoustic guitar. It all kind of hits different places that I feel like is my lane for music. It just hit in that world. It’s mellow.” the Wizards of Waverly Place alum admits.

Gomez confesses that though she loves pop music, she also loves when she has the opportunity to share more ballads that are chock full of emotion and heart. “I love everything that I get to do and be a part of, but specifically, something that connects with people on an emotional level is my favorite” Gomez told Fallon. We are 100% here for the emotion. Who could forget the hauntingly beautiful ballad that was “Camouflage” from Gomez’s last album?

Collaborations

As for who Gomez is collaborating with on the album, it looks like Julia Michaels is a definite possibility. Earlier this year, Michaels released the song “Anxiety” on which Gomez was featured, so there’s a good chance Michales might earn a feature on the upcoming album. If not, we can expect that to hear some of Michaels’ lyrics featured on the new album for sure. “She’s actually been my writing partner for over four years,” Gomez said about her relationship with Michaels. “She and I had our first like big number one together on “Good For You” the songstress shared.

Release date

Gomez admits that she’s still putting the finishing touches on her album, so a release date has not been announced. We’re hoping that it comes out this Summer, just in time for Gomez’s 27th birthday. Until then, we’ll be listening to “Hands To Myself” and all the other Selena Gomez bangers on repeat.
