The global appeal of Selena Gomez
Gomez has been tabloid fodder for many years. Whether it’s her romantic relationship with Justin Bieber, friendship with Taylor Swift, or ongoing health battles, the tabloids seem to always have something to talk about. Gomez struggles at times with her huge success, but despite the attention, she has found ways to be happy. Gomez keeps busy in the recording studio, with three of her albums hitting number one on the Billboard Charts. Gomez is also no stranger to hard work developing successful product lines, such as her exclusive fragrance line, the Dream Out Loud clothing line with Kmart, a collection with Coach, and an athletic line with Puma.
Gomez has spoken openly about being diagnosed with Lupus. In 2017, she underwent a highly publicized kidney transplant. After the life-saving surgery, she started to experience bouts of depression. Gomez went through a very public struggle with anxiety and depression, and in a 2019 interview with The Today Show referred to it as “one of the scariest times in my life.” Recently, Gomez revealed to Miley Cyrus on the Bright Minded Instagram series, that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Gomez took a short break from the music industry to overcome her demons. She returned full throttle in November 2019, with the release of “Lose You to Love Me.” When the emotional ballad skyrocketed to number one on the Billboard charts, Gomez reached out to fans on Instagram saying, “Thank you all for standing by my side through the highs and lows. I couldn’t do it without you all and I can’t wait to start my next adventure with you.”
Fans are excited to see the new makeup line from Selena Gomez
Now, stronger than ever, Gomez has decided what her new adventure is going to be. Expected to launch this summer, exclusively at North American Sephora stores, Gomez is releasing a line of beauty products. According to Harper’s Bazaar, Gomez filed for a patent “to create a line of “Selena Gomez” beauty products including fragrances, cosmetics, skin-care preparations, hair-care preparations, soaps, moisturizers, and essential oils.” When news of the new line broke, more than one million followers immediately joined Rare Beauty on Instagram to support the new brand. Gomez posted a short video to the page, introducing the product line, with the official brand stating,”Our founder @selenagomez believes everyone is unique and rare. But today, too many people feel trapped by unrealistic expectations that are impossible to achieve. @rarebeauty Is about accepting who you are–and finding the beauty in your imperfections.” It is believed that lipstick, highlighters, blushes, and eye products will be the first products introduced in the line.
Fans believe that the release of Gomez’s newest album, Rare, correlates to this new line of products. Gomez recently stated, “I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand. I want us all to stop comparing ourselves and to start embracing our own uniqueness.” She has been seen around town the past few months in new shades of lipstick, wearing bold and bright colors. Fans believe her new look is an indication of what’s to come with her new Rare Beauty products, and they couldn’t be more excited to try them out themselves.
Selena Gomez’s relationship with makeup
Gomez recently talked with comedian Amy Schumer for Interview Magazine. When asked about her upcoming Rare Beauty product line, Gomez responded, “I wanted to start a conversation about how can you make yourself feel great. It’s not necessarily about needing these things to make yourself feel beautiful. People of my generation have all this pressure to look a certain way, and I wanted to make a line that took away a bit of that pressure.”
