It’s been a great few days for Selena Gomez. Her new album, Rare, just released and is already on track to be the number one record. Despite taking four years to release the record, fans and critics alike are calling the album her best to date. Gomez has been celebrating the success of Rare since it released on January 10, 2020. She had a listening party, answered burning questions from fans on Twitter and, of course, celebrated with some of her closest friends.

Selena Gomez celebrates her new album, Rare

On Saturday night, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum went out for dinner with her friends in West Hollywood to the popular restaurant, Craig’s. In a rare turn of events, model, Hailey Baldwin was also at the restaurant. Baldwin is the wife of Gomez’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. Bieber and Gomez had an enduring romance that spanned several years before he got engaged to Baldwin. The relationship between the singers was allegedly fraught with infidelity as well as emotional abuse. In fact, some of the songs from Rare are presumably about Bieber.

Selenators attack Madison Beer for hanging out with Justin Bieber’s wife

Though Gomez and Baldwin did not appear to run into each other while dining out, that didn’t stop drama from ensuing. Though Bieber wasn’t in attendance, Baldwin was dining with singer, Madison Beer. Beer, who is a friend of the Rare singer also, was immediately pummelled with hate on social media. Fans of Gomez (often referred to as Selenators) have filled her comments with snake and rat emojis and accused her of betraying the actress’s trust. Beer’s most recent Instagram post has over 17,000 comments, the majority of them accusing her of being a bad friend to Gomez.

“I knew it, knew Madison was a snake, betrayed Selena like that 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍,” one Gomez fan wrote to Beer on Instagram. “I’m so disappointed in u. Pick a side, man. This ain’t cool. But I think we know where u stand,” another chimed in. Others took the opportunity to bash Baldwin’s character in the process also. “Hailey’s heart is rotten to the core and I am disappointed in you,” one Selenator wrote to Beer. Of course, some people chose to defend Beer on behalf of the “Rare” singer. “Can u all please stop with this?? Not even Sel herself told u all to do it. If u guys have nothing nice to say then better choose to keep your mouth shut,” one person penned.

Beer defends her relationship with Hailey Baldwin

The hate got so bad that Beer felt compelled to defend her actions. She shared that she was merely having dinner with her long-time friend. “These rumors are getting insane…I just had dinner with my friend Hailey of 10 years… and that’s it? How is that a crime? I love Selena… always have (as y’all know). And I would literally never in a million years try to upset her??? This is just mean and unnecessary and nothin happened. It was just a coincidence, you’re bullying me for no reason…,” Beer commented.

Gomez says there is no issue

But despite Beer defending herself, the hate continued. Finally, Gomez herself stepped in to try to put a stop to her fans’ unsavory actions. “This is disgusting reading all of this. This wasn’t intentional whatsoever. I’m so disappointed that people would speak to someone like this. I have known Madison since she was a baby and watched her continue to become the woman she is. There is no issue,” the 27-year-old declared. Though it’s unfortunate that Beer is receiving backlash for having dinner with Baldwin, we love that all three women seem to be handling the situation maturely. We hope that angry Selenatos will just focus on the music and eventually set the petty behavior aside.
