‘Sex and the City’ Reboot: In Case You Missed It, Willie Garson Will Reprise His Role as Stanford Blatch

'Sex and the City' fans are happy to know Aidan Shaw, Mr. Big, and Steve Brady will all appear in 'And Just Like That...'. One cast addition slipped through with very little fanfare. Willie Garson confirmed that he'd reprise his role as Stanford Blatch back in January.

And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City reboot is set to begin filming in New York over the summer. Fans of the series are excited to reconnect with three out of four of their favorite gal pals. In all the uproar over the absence of Kim Cattrall and the addition of Sara Ramirez as a brand-new character, fans seemingly forgot all about Stanford Blatch. Don’t worry; Willie Garson quietly announced his return way back in January. Kristin Davis confirmed it.

The return of Carrie Bradshaw and some of her posse was announced in January 2021. The news led to a flurry of chatter and debate, but details from HBO Max were scarce. The streaming giant seemed to be aiming for the less is more approach to information, and it worked. Several months later, with filming set to start, new information is finally being released.

First, John Corbett announced he’d be returning to portray Aidan Shaw for several episodes. Next, David Eigenberg shared the news that he, too, would return, in some capacity as Steve Brady. Eigenberg was initially concerned that his commitment to Chicago Fire would make a return unlikely. Most recently, Mr. Big’s return to the series has been reportedly confirmed by an HBO insider. While there has been a lot of excitement about the leading men returning to the series, another character announced his involvement months ago.

Fans now know that Aidan, Mr. Big, and Steve will all be in the upcoming series. Corbett, Chris Noth, and Eigenberg, the actors who played the three leading men, have all announced their involvement over the last two months. Garson made his announcement months ago, albeit much more quietly than his male castmates.

Back in January, when HBO Max announced the return of the series, Garson took to Instagram to share the news. He captioned a screenshot of a news story with “yup.” Fans were quick to assume Garson was confirming his involvement in the series with the post. Still, an official announcement did not follow. According to Metro, Davis took to the comments section to confirm Garson’s reprisal. She stated, “Of course Stanford will be back!!” She finished her comment with three heart emojis.

Garson appears to have maintained a close friendship with three of his costars. Garson and Sarah Jessica Parker were dear friends before they began work on the show. The actor seemingly grew close to Davis and Cynthia Nixon during the show’s tenure. Nixon portrayed Miranda Hobbes, and Davis played Charlotte York. Garson does not appear to have maintained a relationship with Cattrall.

Will Mario Cantone reprise his role in the Sex and the City reboot, too?

Since Garson has confirmed his involvement, Stanford fans can’t help but wonder if Mario Cantone will also return. Cantone portrayed Anthony Marantino, Charlotte’s best friend. He first appeared in season 3 and returned as a regular guest star in each subsequent season. In Sex and the City 2, Stanford and Anthony got married to kick off the often-criticized movie.

Sex and the City fans weren’t exactly a fan of the Anthony and Stanford pairing. The two spent much of the original series hating each other. The writers also never explained what became of Stanford’s boyfriend Marcus. Still, they’d like to see Cantone return. For now, the comedian hasn’t commented about his involvement in the series one way or the other.
