And Just Like That… HBO gave the Sex and the City revival a release date. Announced on Tuesday, Oct. 5, the show will premiere in December 2021 on HBO Max. ‘Sex and the City’ was a mega-hit for HBO

The original series debuted in 1998, focusing on Carrie and her friends as they navigated New York’s dating scene. It ran for six seasons until 2004, before spawning two sequel movies released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. There were talks of a third movie, reportedly centered on the death of Chris Noth’s Mr. Big, but it was canceled amid Kim Cattrall’s decision not to reprise her role as iconic fourth friend Samantha Jones.

Fast-forward to January and HBO announced the revival And Just Like That…. The Samantha-less series consists of 10 episodes and revolves around “Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

“You know, who are they in this world now?” Parker told Vanity Fair when discussing the plot. “Have they adapted? What part have they played? Where have they fallen short as women, as friends, and how are they finding their way? Did they move with momentum? Are they like some people who are confused, threatened, nervous [by what’s happening in the world]? I’m so curious and excited to see how the writers imagine these women today.”

The cast of ‘And Just Like That…’ also includes many new faces

In addition to Parker, Nixon, Davis, and Noth, the cast of And Just Like That… features John Corbett (Aiden Shaw), Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch), David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), Evan Handler (Harry Goldenblatt), and Mario Cantone (Anthony Marentino).

There are also new actors including Sara Ramirez as podcaster Che Diaz, Nicole Ari Parker as documentary maker Lisa Todd Wexley, Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace, and Sarita Choudhury as real estate broker Seema Patel, among others.

It’s unclear how the show intends to handle Samantha’s absence, but HBO Max executive Casey Bloys suggested that she simply drifted apart from the other girls.

“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” Bloys told TVLine. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life… They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

Watch the show this December

HBO Max released a video on Oct. 5, announcing And Just Like That… would premiere in December. Parker briefly spoke in the video about filming the show as the video panned to the cast shooting various scenes. “[We’re] shooting the next chapter of ‘Sex and the City,’ or as we like to call it, ‘And Just Like That…’ with some beloved friends,” she said. “But in the meantime, ‘And Just Like That…’ will premiere in December on HBO Max.”
