Sarah Jessica Parker initially turned down the role of Carrie Bradshaw

Before snagging what would eventually become the role of a lifetime, Parker initially felt hesitant to play the glamorous sex columnist. According to Parker, her real-life personality is drastically different from Carrie’s. Because of this, she wasn’t sure if she would be the right fit for the part.

She also had a few hangups about the content of the show.

According to the book Sex and the City and Us, Parker didn’t want to do any nude scenes, despite the sexual nature of the series. She also didn’t want Carrie to throw around the ‘F’ word simply because it’s on HBO. Because Ms. Bradshaw is a writer, Parker believes that she should be more considerate with her vocabulary.

When the producers of the show agreed to all her demands, Parker felt compelled to join the series that was being so accommodating to her needs. Plus, she had never heard of a character as interesting as Carrie Bradshaw.

But despite her adoration for the series, Parker admits that she has never seen an episode of Sex and the City in her life.

Sarah Jessica Parker has never seen ‘Sex and the City’ before

Interestingly enough, Parker has never seen an episode of Sex and the City. This is mainly because she doesn’t like watching things that she has acted in.

“I watch tons of TV, but I never watch anything I’m in,” she told People Magazine. “I mean, I pass by them, but I never, ever, ever watch,” she confessed.

But despite never watching her own series, she can admit to how fantastic the writing is.

“I think the writing is really just a story about friendship and the search for love and a search for home,” said Parker. “What does that mean? What is home and family? How is that different for each of us? As young adults [it’s about] how your friendships become your family – I think that’s something that we all want to experience and we all work toward.”
