The Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That is currently filming in New York City. And, the rumors are already running wild. Will they kill off a major character? Are Carrie and Big getting divorced?

According to star Willie Garson (Stanford Blatch), fans should be careful with their expectations. He says And Just Like That is nothing like the original.

The ‘Sex and the City’ cast was spotted filming a funeral scene

One of the biggest rumors surrounding And Just Like That is that they are killing off a major character in the first episode. According to The Daily Mail, a viral TikTok video featured the cast dressed in black outside the Wolf Building in Chelsea. The indication was that they were filming a funeral scene.

An insider told the outlet that a character will be killed off during the first episode, emphasizing that it’s “going to be a big death.”

“This is all top secret at the moment, because production has just started. But in the first episode fans will be served up a jaw-dropping storyline where one of the major names on the show will die,” the source dished.

‘And Just Like That’ fan theories quickly emerged

In the comments section of the viral video, fans started sharing their theories about which character the Sex and the City reboot is killing off. The frontrunners so far appear to be Chris Noth’s Mr. Big and Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones.

“Rumor has it it’s Mr. Big?” one fan wrote. “Lord forgive me please be Big. I can’t handle more back and forth with him and Carrie, enough is enough lol,” another added.

A third wrote, “They will likely be a misdirect. You think it’s Samantha’s funeral but it’s like for someone’s pet… and there will be some tie to Samantha.”

Noth is back for And Just Like That and has been spotted filming with Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw). However, Cattrall refused to return for the reboot. In 2017, she said she was “moving on” from the Samantha character and had no desire to return for other Sex and the City projects.

‘Sex and the City’ star Willie Garson says the new series is not like the original

During a recent interview with US Weekly, Garson explained why the new series doesn’t have the title Sex and the City. He said that fans shouldn’t think of And Just Like That as a Sex and the City “reboot.” He says they made the title change because it’s a completely different show that features familiar characters as they are today. Not how they were 10 or 20 years ago.

“These are And Just Like That episodes. … It’s an easy thing to talk about, you know — remake, reboot, they use all these horrible words — and for us, I don’t believe it’s either of those things. It’s new episodes about people that we know and their lives now, which has nothing to do with their lives 10 years ago.”

SJP wanted to ‘shake up audiences’

One insider claims that Parker — who is an executive producer — wanted to “shake up audiences” from the beginning of And Just Like That. To make it clear that the new series is a different paced show from the previous one.

“Where anything can happen and anyone can go… just like life,” the source said.

To set itself apart from the original series, a character death in the first episode does make sense. Especially if it turns out to be Samantha. Not only would that explain Cattrall’s absence, but it would set the season’s story in motion.

The insider says that the shocking death will lead Carrie to reunite with characters from the original series that she had rocky relations with.

“This is all top secret at the moment, because production has just started,” the source said. “Only the leading stars and show executives are aware of this presently and are desperate to keep a lid on it – a coffin lid.”

Will the ‘Sex and the City’ reboot be the end of Carrie and Mr. Big?

Another script rumor centered around Carrie and Mr. Big is about a possible divorce. An alleged script leak revealed the on-again, off-again couple is finally off once and for all and have split.

“I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair,” Carrie tells her friends in the leaked scene. “Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?”
