Everyone makes mistakes. But when you’re a celebrity, there is little room for error. You’re supposed to know better and when you don’t, you run the risk of being “canceled” by fans.

Everyone from Taylor Swift and Kanye West to Matt Damon and Gina Rodriguez has faced cancellation over certain remarks or actions. The most recent star to meet such backlash was the singer/songwriter Sia due to a tweet about Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. Let’s discuss here.

What did Sia say about Nicki Minaj and Cardi B?

The drama started on Friday, June 12, when a fan tweeted Sia asking whether she would ever collaborate with Nicki Minaj. The message was accompanied by a photo of the “Super Bass” rapper.

In response, Sia tweeted, “I love @iamcardib and although this isn’t a collaboration, I would love to COLLAB with her any day!”

Although mix-ups happen, the blunder was particularly offensive due to Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s history. Their beef began in 2018 and culminated in a fight that September during New York Fashion Week.

After the incident, Nicki Minaj was shuffled away by security while Cardi B got escorted out with a knot on her forehead. The two would later agree on social media to bury the hatchet, but it seems that there might still be some lingering tension.

Fan reactions to Sia’s tweet

With all of that said, you can imagine how upset fans were with the “Chandelier” singer. The backlash actually became so intense that critics started canceling her through the #SiaIsOverParty hashtag on Twitter.

One fan wrote, “Girl move that hair out yo face AND LOOK,” while another person said, “SIA GIRL YOU NEED TO DELETE I’M NOT PLAYING.” A third person chimed in saying, “SIA I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU… WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU… DELETE…”

There were others, however, who defended the singer.

“I can’t believe people are trying to cancel @Sia after all the good she’s done for the people of this world. Gives her hard earned money to charities, spreads love & positivity, all along with giving good helpful advice in times of need. Y’all give her a break.. #siaislovedparty,” read one tweet.

Echoing that, someone else added: You are loved, Sia. NO MATTER WHAT.”

Sia later apologized for her remarks

Amid mounting backlash, Sia returned to the platform to apologize for the mix-up.

“My f*ck up @NickiMinaj,” she wrote (via BuzzFeed) before later saying: “Hey @iamcardib @NICKIMINAJ you aren’t thinking about a feud right now are you? We are focused on the problem of systemic racism.”

That, however, only generated more backlash, with fans slamming Sia for trying to lecture two black women on racism. As the criticism continued to roll in, Sia tried again and apologized for the entire ordeal.

“I totally misunderstood a tweet earlier that has resulted in me making a buffoon out of myself. Sorry @NICKIMINAJ and @iamcardib if you hear about it. Can I just like you both?” read the tweet.

As of writing, neither of them has responded to her remarks.
