Meri Brown was friend-zoned by Kody in 2015

The relationship between Meri and Kody has only gotten more distant throughout the seasons of Sister Wives. Their relationship was on a rapid decline after she and Kody divorced legally in 2014, so Kody could legally marry Robyn.

The divorce caused Meri to feel insecure as Kody’s first wife. As they became more emotionally distant, Meri got caught up in a catfishing ordeal in 2015.

Despite Kody and Meri attending couples’ therapy for their marriage, it was never the same after the catfishing incident. In Sister Wives Season 16, Kody revealed, “So Meri and I haven’t even been in a full marriage for about five years, you know. She went through a catfishing experience. I thought she was going to leave.”

He continued, “Even on our last anniversary, I just kind of made it clear to her that we probably weren’t getting back together in a full marriage. I mean, I’m not kicking her out. I’m just letting her know where the relationship with me is at.”

When asked why Meri is still with Kody, she explained, “I see value in our family. I see value in all the relationships. I know that things don’t fix or heal if you walk away.”

She tells the cameras, “I have gone how many years without any relationship with Kody, and I get really fed up with it sometimes.”

Kody friend-zones Christine

Christine tells the cameras that she and Kody are done in the preview for the upcoming Jan 23 episode of Sister Wives. As she sits in her bedroom, she explains, ‘He said, ‘I am not interested in having an intimate marriage anymore.'” Christine reveals, “I am not OK with staying in a marriage where there is no intimacy.”

Later in the preview, Kody is filming on his phone in the garage of Christine’s house. He says, “I came out to the garage while I was at Christine’s house.” He films cardboard boxes with the writing “Kody’s books” and “Kody’s clothes” on the side.

Kody tells the camera, “I guess I’ve been moved out of the house.” Meanwhile, Christine struggles to break the news to her children. She says, “I don’t know what to tell my kids.”

‘Sister Wives’ fans compare the difference between how the wives handled it

Many Sister Wives fans have watched Meri in season 16 with frustration as she stays in a platonic marriage with Kody. However, fans are happy to see that Christine isn’t following in the same footsteps as Meri.

One fan wrote via Reddit, “Christine didn’t decide to end the marriage; Kody did. Deciding to stop having an intimate marriage was him leaving her.”

Another fan wrote, “Except that Kody had no clue Christine would ever have the nerve to leave him. He probably figured she’d pine for him and court him like he expected Meri to do.” And another user wrote, “Do you think it’s a power play thing? He loved how meri reacted and wanted the same from Christine?”

It appears that Kody believed that Christine would do as Meri did and stay in a loveless marriage. Sister Wives airs Sundays on TLC and discovery+.
