Kody talks about his marriage to Meri

On the Jan. 30 episode, part one of the One-on-One reunion of Sister Wives, the host asked Kody about his relationship with Meri. He said, “There’s just nothing to talk about really. We’re just like friends.”

He says, “There was a hardness in our marriage that was so difficult and antagonistic that I didn’t know why we were in it. It took a long time, a lot of counseling, we go through all of this for me to finally go, ‘Meri, I just don’t see us getting back together.'”

Kody said that there is “no chance” that he would choose to get back into a marriage with Meri the way it was before. He said, “There’s a double standard. They can leave whenever they want. I can’t.” When the host suggested he had emotionally “abandoned” Meri, Kody got upset, saying he took “offense” to the word.

Meri says she hasn’t been intimate with Kody for 10 years

Meri said, “It’s been 31 years now that we’ve been married and I’m still committed. I’ve made my choice. I’m still here. And I do still have hope.” She hopes they can get back to having a “full fellowship” marriage.

However, Meri revealed that she hadn’t been intimate with Kody in many years. She said, “I miss physical intimacy with him. I would love it for him to hold my hand. That’s just not where we are.” The host asked, “When did the physicality go out?” Meri replies, “I don’t know, maybe a decade.”

Kody isn’t interested in a ‘conjugal’ relationship with Meri

After Meri’s catfishing incident, Kody had a wake-up call about his marriage. He said that it wasn’t just about Meri being the victim of catfishing but that she had an emotional affair with another person. He said, “She would have never even been the victim if she wouldn’t have done something wrong.”

Kody said, “It’s like, she is still part of the family.” He clarifies, “The larger family.” Kody said he’s not interested in anything intimate with her. He said, “But I’m never going to be in a conjugal relationship with her because I’m not going to go through that emotional torture ever again.”

He explains, “I’m not trying to make Meri sound bad. It’s just a bad match.” He explained, “If we weren’t in plural marriage, or felt religiously bound to stay together, things would have been a lot different. A long time ago, probably.”

Despite not being intimate for over a decade, Meri hopes that they can get back into an intimate marriage again or in “full fellowship” again. However, it appears that Kody is no longer interested in anything physical with Meri.

Part two of Sister Wives One-on-One reunion airs Feb. 6 on TLC and discovery+.
