As the TLC reality show Sister Wives began its 16th season, the drama was more intense than ever. There have been big changes going on in the Brown family, and viewers were eager to find out what’s going to happen next for the polygamist family. But fans are also curious about what happened in the past. When Robyn Brown married Kody Brown, she had three kids from a previous marriage. Kody has since adopted the children, but what happened with their biological dad? It turns out Robyn Brown had a good reason to leave her ex-husband behind.

According to In Touch Weekly, plural marriage was a dream come true for Robyn. She married Kody in 2010, and she said, “We should have all been together from day one.” When she said “all” she wasn’t just talking about her, Kody, and the kids. Robyn was excited to share her life with Kody’s three wives, Meri, Christine, and Janelle.

Kody wasn’t quite sure about Robyn at first.

“She had a van, three kids, and was divorced,” he explained. “I thought, ‘I didn’t need a van, a divorced woman, and three kids in my life — that’s just trouble.'”

However, he seemed to overcome his doubts pretty quickly. Four months after they met, the couple got married. Kody even divorced Meri, his first wife, so he could legally marry Robyn and adopt her children.

Robyn Brown left her ex-husband because of alleged abuse

Since she appeared on Sister Wives, viewers have wondered about Robyn Brown’s ex-husband. Although she hasn’t talked about it much, she did make it clear that she has no regrets about divorcing him.

Robyn’s Brown’s ex-husband is David Jessop. The couple married in 1999 when she was 21 and they divorced 10 years later. Of course, divorce and remarriage are not unusual. But it’s far less common for an ex-husband to relinquish his parental rights so the new husband can adopt his children. But according to Robyn, there’s a very good reason he’s out of their lives.

“Just to clarify, I do not tolerate my kids getting bullied,” she explained. “I ended my first marriage because of abuse. My kids come first ALWAYS.”

In 2018, Jessop was arrested for family member assault.

Clearly, Robyn’s decision to join the Brown family was a good one for her and her kids. But although it’s a relief to know that they are safe from abuse, the results of her marriage haven’t been great for everyone in the family.

‘Sister Wives’: Kody Brown Fell in ‘Love at First Sight’ With Wife Robyn, but Her Alter-Ego She-Rah Got in the Way

Almost three weeks before the premiere of Sister Wives’ 16th season, Christine and Kody announced that they had separated after 27 years of marriage. According to People, the first episode of season 16 gave viewers a glimpse at the conflict that led to the split. For one thing, Christine wanted to move back to Utah, while the rest of the family wanted to stay in Arizona.

Ever since Robyn married Kody, there has been tension about her role in the family. It often seems that Kody prefers her to his other wives, a factor that appears to have contributed to his breakup with Christine.

Will Meri and Janelle follow her lead? If rumors are true, they may be moving in that direction. When Robyn came into the family, it looked like she was stepping into the role of the fourth wife. But it may turn out that she will be the only one after all.
