In true Mulaney style, comedian John Mulaney reveals he is once again hosting Saturday Night Live.

Mulaney shared an “official” letter from SNL creator and producer Lorne Michaels. Michaels penned a letter to the people of Toronto because Mulaney had a standup performance scheduled in Toronto the same day Michaels wanted him to host. He acknowledged that Mulaney had a conflict, but shared that the country needed him right now.

He wrote, “I think considering the state of affairs that this country is in, the need for John is greater in New York right now. John was fully prepared for Toronto and feels deep regret to have to postpone for a third time, but he was drafted by SNL. Yes, we still have a draft here. He is simply doing his duty, and there is nothing more Canadian than that.”

John does what Lorne tells him

Mulaney shared the letter to Instagram and joked about how he was too scared to say no to the hosting gig. “A letter from Lorne Michaels to the people of Toronto,” Mulaney wrote along with a photo of the letter. “Please read and understand I am terribly sorry to move the show again.
It is now rescheduled for April 10 and I will be there no matter what. I love you Toronto I hope you know that I won’t let you down again. Also I’m afraid of Lorne so I do what he says.”

Mulaney is scheduled to host the legendary sketch comedy show on Saturday, February 29. Iconic musician David Byrne will perform. Mulaney and Byrne appeared together in Mulaney’s Netflix children’s variety show, John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch.

Fans reacted within minutes of Mulaney’s share. “HOLD ALL THE WAY UP YOURE HOSTING AGAIN????” one person responded. Another wrote, “YOURE HOSTING SNL AGAIN THIS IS FANTASTIC.”

The Canadian audience seems to have a sense of humor about the rescheduled appearance (kinda)

Some people who were perhaps slated to attend the February performance in Toronto busted Mulaney’s chops on his Instagram post. A physician joked, “John I’m scheduled for minor surgery on 4/10. Any chance you could push it?” Another person asked, “Do you have a drs note from Lorne Michaels?”

But some people seemed concerned that Mulaney would cancel again.
“Is this from last time when you had to cancel your show or are you hosing again?” one person snarked. Another person added, “The real injustice is why Lorne doesn’t cast Canadians for SNL anymore. We need more representation 🇨🇦 oh and cant wait to see you host again!”

Canadians may have good reason to be a little annoyed. Mulaney’s original show was scheduled for September 22. That show was rescheduled for January 18. “TORONTO Very bummed to report Sunday’s show is POSTPONED to January 18. I’ll be there Saturday night but have to get home right after. Wouldn’t cancel it if I did not have to. I hope I see you in January. John,” Mulaney tweeted in September.

Mulaney then postponed the January show due to weather. “TORONTO SHOW POSTPONED: Weather says no way. Venue says no way. It is safer for everyone to stay off the roads and out of the air. Your tickets will be honored for new date to follow.”
