Snoop Dogg has been known in the entertainment industry for well over two decades. The West Coast rapper helped put ’90s hip-hop on the map and he’s been able to sustain his career, transforming into an actor with roles in movies like Baby Boy.

At present, he also stars on the hit show, Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party with his good friend Martha Stewart. Though the Doggystyle rapper has been able to transform his image in some ways, he’s remained true to his bad-boy image in many ways.

With 48.3 million followers on Instagram, the rapper has accumulated fans that span across generations. However, most people don’t know that Snoop was actually the very first celebrity to join Instagram.

The history of Instagram

Though Instagram seems like it’s been around forever, the platform is only a decade old. Creators Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched the app in October 2010 on iOS. The platform did not launch for Andriod until April 2012 and with that, the app exploded in popularity. That same month Facebook bought the app for $1 billion.

As of May 2019, the app boasts over one billion users with celebrated soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo as the most followed person on the app with 222 million followers. However, it was Snoop that got A-listers enticed with the app.

Instagram has sometimes gotten Snoop Dogg into trouble

At age 48, Snoop Dogg has had a long history of living in the public eye. He’s gone through quite a lot in career, from losing is close friend Tupac Shakur and even being acquitted of murder. Being on social media and using his platforms have also landed him in hot water recently.

Snoop called Gayle King some horrific names following the death of Kobe Bryant. Though he has since apologized saying he acted out of grief, his treatment of King and Oprah Winfrey won’t soon be forgotten.

The Long Beach born rapper was also recently called out by Instagram model Celina Powell who claimed they had an affair. Though Snoop has been married to his high school sweetheart, Shante Broadus since 1997, Snopp has a long documented history of infidelity.

Snoop Dogg was the very first celebrity to join Instagram

Despite his mishaps, Instagram founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have revealed that the Snoop was actually the first celebrity to join Instagram.

“The first one was Snoop Dogg,” they said. “He really joined early. You’ve got a team of eight or nine at the time, and Snoop Dogg joins and you get a message that says ‘Snoop’s people want to come over to the office.’ Snoop’s people? I don’t have people. Do you have people?”

Snoop joined Instagram on January 11, 2011, with a filtered photo of himself in a suit. The caption was “bossin’ up”. From that first photo alone he earned 2.5 million followers and the rest is history.
