The Death Egg Robot appeared as the final boss in the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ Sega Genesis game

In the Sonic games, Dr. Eggman has always built bigger and bigger robots to defeat Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba). And when Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis, the villain piloted the giant Death Egg Robot as the final boss.

Dr. Robotnik plans to use the Chaos Emerald to power his massive space station, the Death Egg (a not-so-subtle reference to the Death Star from Star Wars). Sonic rides Tails’ biplane, the Tornado, to the Death Egg Zone.

Sonic confronts Robotnik in his giant mech, the Death Egg Robot. Using Sonic’s spin attack and spin jump, players defeat the villain in 12 hits.

And the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game movie looks to add a throwback to the classic Death Egg Robot villain. However, it looks like Paramount Pictures has shaken up its origins.

Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik uses the Master Emerald to build the Death Egg Robot in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’

The final official Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer revealed plenty of new looks at the film. In a previous sneak peek, Sonic fans saw a green tornado forming. However, in the final trailer, everyone discovered that it wasn’t a tornado at all.

Jim Carrey strutted out in what looked like Green Hills. He crackled with green power, likely from the Master Emerald. He deconstructed helicopters, train cars, and more using these new abilities.

These pieces and parts swarm together to form the Sonic the Hedgehog Death Egg Robot villain.

Several different shots reveal that Sonic, Tails, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter all have to work together to take it down.

The Master Emerald could be the key to taking down the villain

The Sonic 2 trailer teased several shots of the Master Emerald as an important piece in the final fight.

In one shot,  Marsden and Sumpter’sharacters rescue Sonic with the Master Emerald just before Dr. Robotnik’s mech crushes the blue blur.

If Sonic the Hedgehog 2 follows the games closely, Knuckles will likely play a part in fighting the Death Egg Robot and Dr. Eggman. After all, Knuckles the Echidna is not a villain, he’s just a little gullible.
