Sony Pictures’ live-action Spider-Man movies like Venom and Morbius have struggled to capture fans’ hearts. However, in the animated Marvel movies, they seem unstoppable. The award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse already has sequels, spinoffs, and bigger stars and character casts. Sony dropped the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer and revealed the title of the third Miles Morales adventure, too.

Sony revealed titles and release dates for ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’

At CinemaCon, Sony announced several Spider-Man projects, such as casting Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny as El Muerto.

They revealed the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse release date for June 2, 2023. They also teased that the Miles Morales sequel would feature around 240 characters from at least six universes. It also has the largest crew for an animated film working on it.

The movie features the return of Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and newcomer Jessica Drew (Issa Rae). The Across the Spider-Verse trailer also featured Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), with IMDb listing Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker to come back.

Meanwhile, they revealed the title and release date for the third Spider-Verse movie. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has a release date slated for March 29, 2024.

Everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’

Unfortunately, Sony has kept most of its secrets regarding the Into the Spider-Verse sequels hidden apart from returning cast members. Very little has been revealed besides announcing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to release on March 29, 2024.

The movie’s synopsis on IMDb reads, “After leaving off from Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse, the story continues.” It hardly offers any new plot hints.

However, IMDb does confirm that Shameik Moore would return to the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse cast as Miles Morales. Directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson are also listed to return for the Sony movie.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to produce the movie alongside Dave Callaham once again.

The Miles Morales film marks the second Sony Pictures Animation’s theatrical franchise to become a trilogy

On another note, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hit something of a landmark, becoming Sony Pictures Animation’s second franchise to release a trilogy theatrically.

IMDb notes that the film “marks the second time a theatrical film franchise from Sony Pictures Animation has become a trilogy after Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018).”

It might not mark a massive accomplishment, but Sony needs all the wins they can get nowadays.

“This does not count Open Season 3 (2010), as that film was released in direct-to-video, same said for Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), which was a CGI remake to the live-action Smurfs films rather than being another sequel,” IMDb said.

And since Hotel Transylvania: Transformania had its theatrical release canceled, the Spider-Verse movies could become Sony Pictures Animation’s first quadrilogy (or tetralogy) in the future. Maybe they could even get Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland to join.
