Ever since the television show South Park debuted in 1997, it has been a fan favorite. Millions of people tune in each week to see what will unfold next, and they also know that they are guaranteed more than a few laughs. Over the years, things have changed slightly, as would be expected with any show, but still, South Park never fails to disappoint.

Although the show is animated, it is meant for an adult audience, and it would actually seem as if the fan base grows bigger each year. According to Mental Floss, the popular show is actually pretty iconic — it was the first one to be labeled for “mature” viewers.

There have been some cameo appearances from some pretty famous celebrities, including Jay Leno, Henry Winkler, and more. So, how does anyone make a cameo in an animated show? Easy — they lend their voices to sounds such as purrs and growls, which may not seem like a huge deal, but is the first show of its kind to do so.

Overall, everyone is extremely happy with how the show has entertained them over the last two decades, but one thing remains certain. Let’s talk about how South Park fans are eagerly awaiting the return of this beloved character.

Just in case there are one or two stragglers who have not seen an episode of South Park, we will quickly go over the premise of the show.

Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show revolves around four main characters: Kenny McCormick, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and is set in the Colorado town of none other than South Park. According to Looper, Parker and Stone met in film school many years ago and actually created the hysterical characters simply because they were bored and needed to have a little fun.

The two friends made up some silly voices and played around with the idea for a year before they finally got the idea to create the show. Over 22 seasons later, and things are still going strong.

One of the longest-running shows in history

Even television shows with high ratings and huge fan bases don’t normally last nearly as long as South Park has.

TV Guide reports that even after all of these years, fans still see the humor in the show and there is no sign of anyone growing bored of it just yet. Most popular among viewers between the ages of 25-40, the show is almost like a sweet escape for many.

While tuning in, viewers know that they can relax and have a good time, enjoying the antics of the four main characters all while forgetting about the stresses of real life for just a little bit. What can be better than that?

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of this beloved character

So which character do fans desperately want to see return to the show? Jerome “Chef” McElroy. The actor who played Chef, Isaac Hayes, left the show due to religious reasons in 2006 and sadly died in 2008.

According to Fandom, he was referred to as Chef due to his role as the elementary school chef who would often provide some much-needed advice to the four boys. After 10 seasons, Chef was killed off of South Park, much to fans’ dismay.

However, that hasn’t stopped many fans from hoping for a way to have producers bring him back. So will Chef ever make a return to South Park? Time will tell.
