Southern Charm: Craig Conover Reveals Non-Toxic Cleaning Hack He Used at Sewing Down South Store

Need to clean antique copper, but worried you could harm the precious metal? Craig Conover from Southern Charm has the perfect solution that not only restores the copper surface but also does it in a green, non-toxic way. He demonstrated his technique on a piece he plans to use at his new Sewing Down South store.

Conover wanted to use an antique copper table in the checkout area of the store. It needed cleaning and polishing so he attempted to clean it using salt, vinegar, and lime juice. Conover uses a scrubbing pad to apply the solution, which proves to be successful (not to mention satisfying to watch).

Conover admitted in the video he shared on Instagram that he’s been trying a slew of other cleaning hacks at his store. Some have hit and some have missed. He didn’t measure the solution and liberally poured salt into the vinegar. He joked about how the video was a “cleaning with Craig” session. Adding, “I think we should bring Home [Economics] back.”

He simply dipped the rough sponge into the mixture (he didn’t stir or mix first) and then went to town on the copper. He worked in a circular motion on the top of the table and began to grin.

“There we go guys!” he exclaimed. “Look at that! This beautiful table! I don’t know how old it is. But this is gonna be our cash register. Instead of throwing it away, or getting a new table … check that out.” Indeed. The table is sparkling and looks like new.

Sewing Down South grand opening is on May 15

Conover can hardly contain his excitement on Instagram leading up to the big grand opening on May 15. The store is situated on one of the most iconic streets in Charleston and Conover said Sewing Down South will stock it with a wide choice of pillow designs but so much more.

“This is the next step in our journey that I’ve always dreamt about. It feels like another way to share Sewing Down South with everyone that has supported us from the start,” Conover told Showbiz Cheat Sheet.

“The company, Sewing Down South is going wild, which is really fun and cool,” he added. Teasing that he planned to offer a line of candles too. “It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while,” he said. “We have kitchen oils that are coming out that we just created. So Sewing Down South is just growing as basically like an entire line for your home.”

Conover recently posted, “Grand opening of Sewing Down South in Charleston, SC this Saturday, May 15 at 10 am! I can’t wait to meet all of you. Address is 493 King Street, Charleston SC., 29403.”
